The School of Integrated Sciences, Sustainability and Public Health (ISP) in the College of Health, Science and Technology (CHST) at the University of Illinois Springfield seeks to recruit a senior faculty as full professor or senior level associate professor (at least in their third year of associate appointment) with expertise in environmental toxicology and risk assessment. The position will begin on August 16, 2025.
ISP is an integrated school encompassing biology, chemistry, environmental studies/sciences, and public health. We are eager to recruit an accomplished senior faculty and Presidential Professor who works at the interface of multiple disciplines within ISP and who specifically can help build the public health program in the school.
This is a full-time on-campus position tenure-track academic appointment. UIS tenure-system faculty are expected to be available and engaged in the university community, with assigned professional responsibilities for teaching, scholarship, and service.
The selected candidate will receive a Presidential Professorship with $20,000 per year to support their research in innovation and discovery.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Teaching: Teach courses in Environmental Toxicology, Environmental Risk Assessment, Risk Management and Communication, or courses in candidate’s areas of expertise. Teaching load (no more than four courses per academic year) will consist of a combination of on-campus and online courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Scholarship: Candidates must have an accomplished record of external funding for research. The position will continue research in her/his specialization and direct student research. With proper startup, the new person has to pursue not only intramural but also extramural grant funding. In addition, the person should welcome opportunities to collaborate with other ISP faculty.
Service: The person will provide leadership to the public health faculty, help create a new B.S. degree program in Public Health, achieve a balance between domestic and international student enrollments in the MPH program, contribute to the One Health initiative, as well as seek/maintain program accreditations. We expect the new faculty member to engage in service at all levels from program to the profession.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD, DrPH, or equivalent degree in environmental toxicology, environmental health, chemistry or a related field
Experience and qualifications for the rank of full professor or senior-level associate professor
Demonstrated accomplished record of external funding for research
Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research mentorship of students, academic administration and service, as well as community and professional engagement
