Summary:
The University of Illinois Springfield announces the availability of an on-campus Pre-Doctoral Funded Fellowship for Fall 2025. The purpose of this fellowship is to enhance diversity in research, teaching, and service at UIS through the recruitment of graduate students who are completing dissertation research.
Fellows will teach one course each semester in an area related to their academic preparation and a need of the host department/school. Fellows are expected to devote significant time to the completion of the dissertation. Fellows may also work with a faculty mentor and will have opportunities to present their research at a number of University and professional venues.
Fellows receive an academic year (nine-month) faculty appointment and are eligible for benefits, including health insurance. Annual salary is $35,000. Fellows must be eligible for employment. Additionally, fellows receive support for research, professional travel, and other related expenses. It is expected that fellows will not be employed outside of the University or receive additional fellowships or awards during the fellowship period unless approved by the University.

Minimum Qualifications:
Fellows must be dissertation stage doctoral degree candidates studying in one of the following areas:
Computer Science: Seeking candidate interested in working on application of deep learning in protein engineering. Candidates should be familiar with Large Language Models pre-training and fine-tuning and have experience working with common deep learning libraries such as Pytorch, Tensorflow, and HuggingFace.
Geospatial Data Science (School of Integrated Sciences, Sustainability, and Public Health - ISP): Seeking candidates with a geospatial data science specialization or concentration for their PhD programs who will teach one of the following courses per semester based on their individual interest and/or the curricular need: Fundamentals of GIS, Fundamental of Remote Sensing, GIS Programming, or Geospatial AI and Machine Learning.
One Health (School of Integrated Sciences, Sustainability, and Public Health - ISP): Seeking candidates with e a One Health concentration or training for their PhD programs who will teach one of the following courses per semester: Introduction to One Health or Disease Ecology.
Communication and Media: Seeking candidates with experience using multiple methodologies who are prepared to teach multiple methodologies to undergraduate students as a new requirement of the communication major. Experience/interest in teaching sports communication or interpersonal communication courses is preferred.
