The Custodian performs a range of manual labor tasks, including cleaning and minor repairs for the general Union facilities and/or assigned areas. The position operates on a specified non-rotating shift within a 24-hour coverage framework. Duties adhere to established cleaning and repair procedures, which may be inspected during or after completion to ensure compliance with instructions and work standards. Responsibilities also include monitoring the security of both exterior and interior areas of the building and operating various machines as part of daily tasks.

Supervision Received & Given:
Receives direct supervision from the designated shift Group Leader. The role does not typically involve supervising other employees. This position is non-exempt from overtime.

Essential Functions:

Dependability:
-
Clean restrooms, replenish supplies, unclog sinks and toilets, and report repair needs.
-
Collect and remove waste.
-
Maintain a supply closet with necessary products and equipment.
-

Job Knowledge:
-
Clean, polish, dust, and maintain hard surfaces such as furnishings, walls, ledges, doors, windows, fixtures, and floors.
-
Strip and refinish floors.
-

Quality:
-
Clean and maintain fabric surfaces, including furnishings, wall fabric, curtains, blinds, rugs, and carpets.
-

Collaboration and Cooperation:
-
Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed.
-
Organize and set up furniture for specific areas according to specifications.
-
Set up and tear down rooms and banquet areas.
-

Judgment:
-
Secure rooms and other areas as part of daily duties.
-
May serve as a guard or night watchman on incidental assignments.

Organizational Support:
-
Check building and custodial equipment for proper operation.
-
Perform minor maintenance repairs and replace light bulbs.
-
Review and follow the daily schedule of events for specific areas to ensure readiness for scheduled events.

Additional Responsibilities:

Respond to inquiries from the public and building users regarding events and services.

Address requests for spill cleanups and assist with building emergencies related to weather or system failures.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills:
-
Knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and practices involved in custodial and housekeeping operations.

Ability to learn the operation and maintenance of janitorial equipment, including vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, and polishing machines.

Ability to perform minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment.
-
Ability to use cleaning materials appropriately for different building surfaces.

Ability to work effectively with others.
-
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
-
Ability to understand and follow detailed instructions, both oral and written.

Minimum Qualifications:
-
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
-
Some experience in housekeeping or custodial work.
-
Valid driver’s license.
-
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Moderate experience in housekeeping and custodial work within a large facility.

Full-time employment with the Union Corporation is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check prior to being able to begin work. This position is eligible for an employee referral bonus.
