Summary
I am seeking a PhD student in plant ecology and/or ecophysiology at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, in the Department of Biology, beginning January or August 2025. The successful candidate’s research will focus on investigating links between plant morphological, chemical and physiological traits, and whole-plant performance using greenhouse studies, as well as manipulative and observational field studies. This PhD position is fully funded as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (https://biology.louisiana.edu/current-students/graduate-students/assistantships-fellowships).
The student will be advised by Dr. Andrea Westerband (https://andreawesterband.com/), a new faculty member within the department. Andrea has extensive amounts of experience working with undergraduate and graduate students both in the US and Australia, and is a highly engaged and enthusiastic teacher and mentor.
Responsibilities
Student will be required to design, execute and maintain field-based or greenhouse experiments with the assistance and supervision of Dr. Westerband. This may require driving to field sites using a university vehicle or personal vehicle. Students will also be required to teach undergraduate courses as part of their teaching assistantship.
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include an MS or equivalent experience in a relevant field, experience measuring plant traits, conducting fieldwork, a valid US driver’s license, and strong communication and teamwork skills. Required skills include a BA or BS in a relevant field, three letters of recommendation, transcripts and test scores.
