Responsibilities:
The Kathleen Blanco Public Policy Center is an independent, interdisciplinary research center and archive engaged in high impact research across a range of topics in public policy. Our core policy areas of focus include education, poverty and economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, health and healthcare, the coast and environment, and governmental ethics. Within those broad domains, the Blanco Center has established a strong and growing cluster of expertise in economic and environmental resilience and launched a dedicated research program to better align existing and planned work in economic and environmental resilience.
An important area of focus within the Blanco Center’s economic and environmental research program is the energy transition and better understanding and shaping the complex relationships between the economy and environment. Louisiana has long been known as an energy state and is now on the leading edge of the energy transition. The first-hand experience of communities here is part of a broader global trend as society works to adapt to accelerating environmental changes and the Blanco Center’s commitment to addressing poverty and economic opportunity motivates a focus on equity and promoting access to new opportunities through this transition. Increasing engagement between the research community, stakeholders, and the public at large is critical as we work together to establish new priorities and policies to create a more sustainable and vibrant economy. Our research center is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join us as an Energy Justice Outreach Coordinator.
The Energy Transition Outreach Coordinator will play a vital role in connecting our research center with policymakers, industry stakeholders, and the public. This position involves designing and implementing strategic outreach initiatives to promote awareness, understanding, and adoption of policies related to the energy transition and the Blanco Center’s broader research program on economic and environmental resilience.
Responsibilities:
1. Policy Engagement:
- Develop and implement outreach strategies to engage policymakers at local, regional, and national levels.
- Cultivate relationships with government agencies, NGOs, industry partners, and other relevant stakeholders to promote effective energy transition policies.
- Connect Blanco Center researchers with opportunities to disseminate research and share expertise related to the energy transition.
- Pursue and cultivate new funding opportunities to support an expanded set of research at the Blanco Center related to the energy transition.
2. Public Awareness Campaigns:
- Design and execute public awareness campaigns to communicate research findings and policy recommendations to a broad audience.
- Collaborate with communications and marketing staff to create compelling content for various channels, including social media, websites, and public events.
3. Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with research teams to understand and communicate complex energy transition research in a manner accessible to diverse stakeholders.
- Facilitate workshops, roundtable discussions, and forums to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among stakeholders.
4. Policy Analysis and Reporting:
- Stay informed about the latest developments in energy transition policies, regulations, and industry trends.
- Contribute to analysis and reporting activities to help advance evidence-based policy.
- Contribute to Blanco Center research projects related to the energy transition.
5. Event Planning and Coordination:
- Work with Blanco Center Assistant Director and communications staff to organize and coordinate events, conferences, and seminars to bring together experts, policymakers, and industry leaders in the field of energy transition.
- Ensure the success of events by managing logistics, outreach, and participant engagement.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Public Policy, Environmental Studies, Energy Policy, or a related field.
- A Bachelor's degree in a social science, environmental studies, or policy-related field and 2 years of experience will substitute for the master’s degree.
Skills, Abilities, Etc.:
- Strong understanding of energy transition, sustainability, and related policy issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in outreach, public engagement, or related roles is preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with university research environments and academic processes is an asset.
