Responsibilities:
The New Iberia Research Center (NIRC) is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Imaging, Surgery, and Infectious Disease Study Coordinator to join our team. Reporting to Dr. Jeremy Smedley, Chief Scientific Officer, and Dr. François Villinger, Director of NIRC, this grant-funded position plays a critical role in supporting groundbreaking biomedical research conducted in our AAALACi-accredited facility. The NIRC houses approximately 12,000 nonhuman primates and operates as a premier resource for basic and applied research aimed at solving human health and societal challenges. The successful candidate will oversee and coordinate a variety of research programs involving imaging, surgical procedures, and infectious disease studies in ABSL2 and ABSL3 facilities.
- Coordinate research studies related to imaging, surgery, and infectious diseases in nonhuman primates (NHPs).
- Develop and maintain study documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and regulatory documents.
- Train and oversee research staff in study protocols, procedures, and regulatory compliance.
- Collect biological samples from NHPs and assist in preparation for minor and major surgical procedures.
- Perform imaging procedures using equipment such as PET/CT and fluorescence imaging systems.
- Administer study drugs, vaccinations, and infectious agents in compliance with study protocols.
- Monitor anesthesia and assist with surgical and nonsurgical procedures.
- Conduct necropsies, tissue processing, and peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) preparation.
- Perform laboratory assays to evaluate immunological and virological parameters.
- Formulate and prepare study drugs, viral dilutions, and laboratory reagents.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, order supplies, and ensure proper functionality of imaging and surgical equipment.
- Perform scintigraphy, image analysis, and maintain accurate data entry in animal and study records.
- Develop and manage databases for sample storage, experimental animal data, and laboratory-generated reagents.
- Ensure adherence to research protocols and safety standards at ABSL2 and ABSL3 facilities.
- Assist with additional duties as assigned to support the research team and overall project goals.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- A Master of Science degree and 5 years’ experience in biology, immunology, molecular biology, microbiology, veterinary medical/technical, or a related field (or equivalent).
- OR a Bachelor’s degree plus 10 years of experience in biology, immunology, molecular biology, microbiology, veterinary medical/technical, or a related field (or equivalent) will substitute for the Master’s degree.
- Previous experience in biomedical research with nonhuman primate (NHP) model sample collection and/or bench work experience, and the operation of equipment under biosafety level 2 conditions will be a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail are required.
