What are the responsibilities and job description for the Advanced Practice Provider Fellow-Department of Medicine position at University of Maryland Faculty Physicians, Inc?
Under supervision, and in collaboration with physician colleagues, assists with diagnosing and treating patients. Assists with facilitating and coordinating communication between the health care team, patient and patient’s family. Coordinates care to ensure quality, effective care and patient safety.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Establishes joint practice with designated providers where follow up patients have a venue to be seen and cared for in tandem with the provider's clinic.
- Establishes a primary practice separate from a designated provider where urgent or return patients (recently discharged, recently hospitalized, urgent medical issues appropriate for clinic, new symptoms related to an existing problem) will be triaged and treated as needed.
- Assists in the triage and management of established Practice patients.
- Reviews all complex cases with physician and handles independently in accordance with competencies as agreed upon by supervising physician
- Reviews intake forms and medical records for appropriateness.
- Performs detailed patient interviews and physicals.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Master of Science degree in Nursing, Registered Nurse license and certified as a Nurse Practitioner or Graduation from a Physician Assistant Training Program approved by the Board of Physician Quality Assurance is required Registered and currently recorded with the Maryland Board of Examiners of Nurses and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland or National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required
- DEA and CDS eligible
- CPR required
- ACLS/BCLS as required
- Demonstrates ability to promote professionalism through involvement in professional organizations, teaching, research, publishing, and/or certification in area of specialty
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs
- Demonstrates highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with patient families, departmental units, medical and nursing staff on all essential matters
- Maintains updated mandatory training
- Updates immunizations as recommended per practice area
