Adjunct instructors are hired locally or regionally to teach specific courses in which they have particular expertise. They normally teach no more than half of the full-time load. Adjunct instructors receive a letter of appointment for each semester in which they teach; they are paid on a per-course basis. No expectation of continuing employment is implied.

The Department of Allied Health in the School of Health Sciences at the University of New Haven is seeking to hire EMT Lab Instructors- Adjunct Faculty in the area of Paramedicine.


The Paramedicine program is one of a few in the country that offers an AS/BS degree in Paramedicine, as well as an online completion degree. The current enrollment in the program is over90 students, and it is one of the signature degree programs at the School of Health Sciences. The School of Health Sciences offers a vibrant and diverse clinical and research atmosphere where academic and clinical faculty provide students with the highest level of professional training in the classroom, simulation labs, and in the community setting. The School of Health Sciences has strong relationships with multiple health systems in the southern New England region that provide many opportunities for research, community partnerships, and other collaborations. The School of Health Sciences offers degrees at the bachelors, masters, and doctoral levels. We are dedicated to achieving programmatic excellence through cultural diversity.

You will:

Responsible for teaching Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) courses in accordance with the philosophy, vision, mission, policies, and procedures of the University of New Haven Paramedicine Program. Under the general supervision of Course Coordinator, Lead Instructor, Assistant Program Director, and the Program Director. Faculty will follow a curriculum developed by the University of New Haven Paramedicine Program to include assessment, course requirements, student learning outcomes, and skill sets. Instructors are responsible for preparing students for the state / national certification exams.

Teaching/Preparation/Evaluation

  • Assist students individually or in small groups by reinforcing or following up on instructions provided by the instructor, including explaining concepts, principles, and terminologies to students.
  • Evaluate and assist students in the development of knowledge and skills associated with Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Prepare and maintain the EMT lab for student training, ensuring that equipment is clean, organized, and in operating order; perform basic maintenance of equipment as necessary maintain inventory of all lab supplies and equipment; maintain safety standards in the lab.
  • Document, and report student progress in a written evaluation.
  • Meet with EMT faculty to plan student-learning activities in the lab.
  • Maintain a positive professional and educational environment that promotes student success.
  • Any other assignments or tasks requested

You need:

  • Three years of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), routinely administering Basic Life Support (BLS) care.
  • CT EMS Instructor preferred
  • Certified in the state of Connecticut as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
  • AHA CPR Instructor preferred
  • Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrate the willingness as well as the capacity to conduct yourself in a professional and courteous manner with other University of New Haven Faculty, staff and students. Share knowledge and contribute to helping others collegially while supporting the mission of the University of New Haven.
