PREP Physics Instructors are responsible for working with a Program Assistant Mentor (PA) to deliver in-person instruction of the Year 2 Physics and Integrated Algebra STEM course. Instructors are also expected to attend necessary professional development, maintain grading, and provide students with feedback based on formative and summative assessments.
This is a temporary position dependent on availability of funds and departmental need.

Job Summary
PREP Physics Instructors are responsible for working with a Program Assistant Mentor (PA) to deliver in-person instruction of the Year 2 Physics and Integrated Algebra STEM course. Instructors are also expected to attend necessary professional development, maintain grading, and provide students with feedback based on formative and summative assessments.
This is a temporary position dependent on availability of funds and departmental need.
Core Responsibilities
- Be available to work a full seven-hour workday, Monday through Thursday.
- Attend all required professional development days prior to program start date. Trainings will begin on designated Saturdays in May.
- Report to class and other assigned duties on time.
- Deliver student-centered PEER Physics curriculum. Instruction will be delivered in person Monday-Thursday at your assigned campus. Instructional materials and evaluation tools will be provided for each course.
- Be available at least one hour per day for one-on-one tutoring.
- Organize and/or develop special project days for students in conjunction with your program assistant (PA), if applicable.
- Attend all staff meetings.
- Provide both the students and their PA with clear and concise grading procedures and a description of the value of program components.
- Administer all quizzes and exams provided by instructional team.
- Grade all homework, quizzes, exams, midterms, and finals.
- Give proper notice (at least 1 week in advance) to your PA when you need supplies in preparation for your class.
- Compile grades and submit final grades to the PREP Lead Instructor as required.
- Consult with the appropriate PA on the status of your students on a weekly basis.
- Inform PA of your standards and expectations.
- Follow the same rules and guidelines set for the students and PA (for example: following etiquette, wearing appropriate clothing, etc.)
- Serve as a positive role model and facilitate the participants' personal growth and academic motivation/ achievement.
- Be receptive to other responsibilities, as requested by PREP Lead Instructor and assist with general program needs, as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Valid Teaching Certificate in any of the following: Physics 8-12, Science 8-12, Mathematics 8-12, Mathematics/Physical Science/Engineering 8-12.
- Experience in teaching K-12 students.
- Experience implementing and delivering instructional materials and evaluation tools.
- Experience teaching STEM related courses.
- Knowledge of Blackboard or a similar LMS.
- Proficiency in inquiry-based learning pedagogy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a sponsor of STEM competition team or club.
