Salary Range: $33,400- $53,512 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours: up to 40 hours per week, exempt.

Essential Functions

Job Summary

Assist in the planning and direction of a unit engaged in research and to perform advanced engineering or scientific duties requiring special qualifications or attainments with a wide latitude for independent action and decision.

This is a temporary position dependent on availability of funds and departmental need.

Core Responsibilities
  • Responsible for assisting with the direction of a research program and for performing complex or unusual research assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
  • Assists in the development and design of plans for research experiments and projects.
  • Prepares specifications and develops techniques. Prepares project proposals and field work.
  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates detailed phases of research projects including devising new approaches to problems encountered; conducts operations security reviews; and prepares progress reports.
  • Oversees the supervision and training of student employees, interns, and volunteers; oversees staff using established procedures; and leads research teams in advanced multi-year research activities.
  • Assists key members of research staff in solving specific problems encountered in project.
  • Assumes responsibility for acceptance or rejection of results achieved.
  • Responsible for evaluation, selection, and application of scientific techniques used in routine research.
  • Performs professional research to include performing experiments; gathering and analyzing data and samples; setting up/operating equipment; and inspects minor fabrication, erection, or assembly for conformance to specifications.
  • Performs specified phases of research projects to include making and recording observations and measurements; compiles data; processes paperwork; maintain lab accounts; writes technical reports; and assists in the writing and editing process of grants.
  • Assists in making chemical analyses of body fluids and tissues; performs venipuncture and obtains blood specimens.
  • Performs library research.
  • Trains incoming and existing students on experimental procedures and assists with students' papers prior to submission for journals or for class.
  • Participates in training sessions and workshops.
  • Promotes a safe environment by working in a safe manner; immediately reporting unsafe situations, spills, and accidents; following University safety plans/procedures/protocols; and participating in appropriate safety training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution in the field of assignment.
  • Three years of related research experience.
  • Knowledge of randomized controlled clinical trials principles, methodology, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of fiscal management, grant writing and administration, and grant reporting.
  • Knowledge of statistical data collection, editing, validation, and analysis techniques.
  • Ability to develop technical reports and manuscripts.
  • Ability to make evaluative judgments.
  • Ability to communicate and interact competently and professionally at all levels within a broad, complex clinical research environment with a culturally diverse multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to establish data collection and management guidelines.
  • Ability to provide technical advice, guidance, and support to professional staff in area of specialty.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Demonstrates good time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills for writing papers, reports, and bids and for giving presentations.

  • Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
