Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose
The Director of Student Involvement is responsible for visioning, developing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating all areas within the Office of Student Involvement. The position is directly responsible for leadership, supervision, managerial, and budgeting oversight for all areas within the department including: Student Activities and Programming, Student Government, Registered Student Organizations, and Fraternity and Sorority Life. Reports to the Assistant Vice President, Student Life (AVP) projecting student success and needs appropriately to meet division and university goals. Works collaboratively with students, faculty, administrators, parents, and alumni to create a vital and engaged campus community and provide essential services that integrates student learning, growth, and development.
Essential Functions
  • Develops, coordinates, and assesses a comprehensive student activities program of educational, recreational, social, and cultural programs with opportunities for social engagement and personal growth which appeal to a diverse audience.
  • Oversees Student Activities and Programming, Student Government, Registered Student Organizations, and Fraternity and Sorority Life.
  • Responsible for the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of Student Involvement professional staff and support to the selection and training of student staff.
  • Create a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment where all voices can be heard. Demonstrate cultural competence and success in working with diverse populations.
  • Develops and oversees an annual operating budget of over $1 million based on data that supports the University's guidelines and strategic goals; monitors contracts, budget expenditures; exercises budget authority for all student involvement areas.
  • Supervises the Assistant Director of Student Organizations and Leadership Programs with a focus on increasing student engagement, leadership development programs, and retention.
  • Supervises the Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life and all aspects of Social and Professional Greek Organizations including, but not limited to, recruitment, leadership, programming, activities, and retention.
  • Supervises the Assistant Director of Advising for Associated Students of the University of the Pacific (ASUOP), providing support and guidance to the student government.
  • Collaborates with Student Life and University partners on events including but not limited to: Move-in, Week of Welcome, Homecoming, and Admissions Prospective and Confirmed Student Events.
  • Develops and implements creative marketing and events strategy in partnership with Student Life and Strategic Marketing.
  • Prepares for and oversee the University's response to potential student demonstration/protests. Following Federal and University policies/procedures, safeguard student free speech rights while also ensuring that all University functions still continue to operate.
  • Projects concerns, needs, and outcomes from Student Activities, ASuop, Fraternity and Sorority Life to AVP as appropriate.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

This position serves as Campus Security Authority (CSA) as outlined by the Clery Act. CSAs have federally mandated responsibilities to report crimes that are reported them.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Leadership Education, Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel or related discipline.
  • Four (4) years of professional experience in student activities, fraternity and sorority affairs, leadership planning/development, or advising student groups in a higher education setting.
  • One (1) year of experience leading and supervising staff.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive experience working with and advising college-level student activity programs, clubs, and organizations.
  • Extensive experience supervising student and/or professional staff members and facilitating the process and execution of goals and action.
  • Working knowledge of social fraternity and sorority programs, organizations, and chapters.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the push points of student government leadership and ability to mentor students and amplify concerns to executive and higher-level administrators.
  • Excellent writing skills sufficient to draft clear and concise professional reports and correspondence.
  • Strong budget management skills and experience.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to communicate complex information to large and small groups.
  • Strong organizational skills to work independently and to prioritize workload under the pressure of competing assignments and dynamic deadlines.
  • Promotes teamwork in a collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple campus and community stakeholders on events, student concerns, and developing and implementing projects.
  • Positive attitude, proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment with use of computer and phone. Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using computer keyboard and phone. Constant verbal and written communication. Occasional standing, walking across campus, climbing stairs, stooping and reaching. May be required to lift up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel
Work performed during normal business hours, with additional hours on evenings and weekends to meet department needs or deadlines. Some travel required to distant campuses or conferences/meetings.

Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range $80k-$83,799.30 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
