What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer I position at UPG?
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Purchases raw materials used in process and manufacture products or other business activities.
- Monitors and analyzes the commodities market, global economic conditions, and events to make informed purchase decisions.
- Identifies, evaluates, and monitors suppliers to develop reliable sourcing and ensure the quality and availability of required commodities.
- Participates in bidding and contract negotiations to obtain the best price to meet commodity needs.
- Analyzes inventory levels, manufacturing schedules, and long-term business objectives to plan and manage purchases.
- Monitors supplier metrics of Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
- Identifies MRO suppliers and places orders.
- Actively monitors progress on orders and communicates with the supplier to attain the best possible delivery.
- Complies with all applicable regulations and standards governing the purchase and delivery of goods.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field/experience
- 2-4 years of related experience
- Previous experience in Steel Industry, preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Multi-tasking capabilities and strong organizational skills
- Previous ERP experience, MIS software experience preferred
