The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of General Counsel is searching for Employment Law/Litigation Attorneys in Montgomery AL who are committed to public service and representing the interests of the VA.
Our employment law attorneys provide day-to-day employment law advice and assistance to VA managers and supervisors in our nine-state area of responsibility. They also represent the Department in employment law litigation cases in administrative fora like the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
The General Attorney will provide advocacy, advisory and negotiation services to client facilities in the District of the Southeast US. Primary practice will be defensive employment and labor litigation. Great team environment. Excellent hours and benefits
Duties: The incumbent’s primary responsibilities are to represent and advise the Department of Veterans Affairs in personnel matters and litigation before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB), the Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA), Arbitrations pursuant to collective bargaining agreements, Disciplinary Appeals Boards conducted under 38 U.S.C. §§ 7461-7464, and VA Grievance Procedures. The incumbent sometimes covers psychiatric commitment hearings.
Additionally, the incumbent advises VA officials concerning legal matters arising from and affecting the operations and mission of VA. The incumbent’s advice and opinions accurately apply Federal Laws and Regulations, State Laws, and VA Policies, Directives, and Handbooks, taking into account the effect upon Veterans, the public, and the overall mission and programs of the VA.
Preferred Experience:
Experience with federal-sector employment and labor law
Recent litigation – civil or criminal
Grade level: GS-11 through GS-14 upon hire, depending on experience; GS-14 is full promotion potential.
