Responsibilities

The Patient Care Assistant ICU provides family centered healthcare utilizing a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to deliver state of the art care to the patient; abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values; adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality; participates in orientation of new employees as assigned; receives verbal and written assignments from RN/LPN; requires minimal supervision to safely perform patient care; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving, positioning and transferring patients without assistance or with assistance when needed for patient safety, and when moving equipment that is necessary to perform essential functions; reports any changes in the patient’s condition to RN/LPN; operates unit equipment as required; maintains clean and neat stocked areas and patient rooms; maintains clean work area with appropriate forms and supplies; processes requests and orders during computer downtime; runs unit errands as needed; cleans equipment between each patient use; assists patients with Activities of Daily Living as needed; assists with and accompanies patient on admission, discharge, and transfer; keeps hallway clear of equipment; distributes water and ice; answers patient call lights promptly; replaces needle buckets as needed; maintains 24-hour urine collections; performs catheter care, Accu-checks, and Incentive Spirometry; utilizes the Hospital Information System to enter requests for unit maintenance and repair, schedule follow up appointments, order supplies and complete unit inventory, enter written physician orders accurately and in a timely manner, and complete patient discharges; replenishes chart stationary; prepares unit admission packs for downtime; performs general clerical duties; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.

 


Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
