USI Consultants is an established Engineering and Land Surveying firm located in Indianapolis, with a variety of projects throughout Indiana. We are seeking to fill a full-time Survey Crew Chief position in our Topographic Survey department.
Candidates must be willing and able to work outdoors in all weather, and occasionally at night. Overnight travel will be required regularly.
Position Description :
Candidates will be responsible for collecting data for new road, bridge, and building sites. Some of the responsibilities of the successful candidate will include (but are not limited to) :
- Operating a variety of survey equipment, including robotic total stations, digital levels, and GPS equipment.
- Training / Assisting crew members in the operation of survey equipment and general responsibilities of a crew member.
- Keep survey vehicle stocked and equipment maintained.
- Understanding work and project safety plans.
- Daily data reduction and data clean-up.
- Preparing neat and legible field notes and sketches.
- Interpretation and understanding of various survey documents, including maps, old road plans and other boundary records.
- Coordinating with office personnel to maintain needed levels of survey supplies.
- Calculations necessary for the completion of daily survey projects.
- Research of property deeds, recorded surveys, subdivision plats.
Physical Requirements :
The successful applicant will be able to walk long distances carrying survey equipment, be prepared to work in road traffic, forest, water, and construction site environments, be physically able to open manholes to measure depths of storm and sanitary sewers, use a variety of hand tools, and perform all other tasks a land survey crew might reasonably be requested to perform.
