Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Cleans calculus/plaque deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth supra & subgingivally.
2. Feels and visually examines gums for sores and signs of disease, performs and documents intraoral exams for signs of oral cancer or other serious disease conditions .
3. Examines gums to locate periodontal recessed gums and signs of gum disease.
4. Applies fluorides and other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay.
5. Charts conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist.
6. Exposes x-rays.
7. Makes impressions for study casts.
8. Removes sutures and dressings.
9. Administers local anesthetic agents.
10. Places and removes rubber dams, matrices, and temporary restorations.
11. Removes excess cement from coronal surfaces of teeth.
12. Provides clinical services and health education to improve and maintain oral health of all Patients.
13. Conducts dental health clinics (and school based clinics) for community groups to augment services of dentists.
14. Place cemotheraputic agent to maintain periodontal health.
15. Assist dentists with any or all procedures as requested.
16. Maintain federal and state equipment inspection and licensure requirements, records, and preventive maintenance records.
17. Comply with the UNHS Policies regarding Confidentiality, with the Privacy Act, with Health Insurance Portability Act.
18. Follow all personnel policies and procedures of UNHS and support the administration team in providing quality healthcare in a financially viable process.
19. Maintain patient and business confidentiality at all times.
20. Maintain Basic Life support certification at all times.
21. Any other tasks, projects, or duties that are requested by the Employee’s supervisor or other UNHS management or administration that is at all reasonably related to UNHS and/or the Employee’s employment with UNHS.

Requirements

• Must be a licensed Dental Hygienist in the State of Utah, or able to transfer licensure to Utah.
• Ability to communicate in Navajo is preferred, but not required.
• Must be able to work well with others
• Have an excellent work history and customer service mindset

As a Tribal Organization the Utah Navajo Health System, Inc. (UNHS) treats patients with high risk and underlying chronic medical conditions. Therefore, UNHS requires its employees to show proof of immunization prior to their employment with UNHS or during their employment. Below is a list of immunizations/vaccinations required to be employed or to continue employment with UNHS.
The immunizations/vaccinations include but not limited to following:

• MMR (Measles Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella): Documentation of two MMR vaccines (OR) Documentation of MMR titers.
• Complete Hepatitis B vaccine series (3 doses), documented proof of titers indicating immunity, or a declination that may be signed upon arrival.
• Proof of up-to-date PPD skin testing, if previously negative (OR) Proof of positive PPD skin test with the most recent chest x-ray and treatment history.
• Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap).
• Varicella titers, history of varicella or varicella immunization series.
• Influenza vaccine for the current year.
• COVID-19 vaccine
• Any other vaccinations as requested.
