Join Valley-Wide Health Systems as the Dental Residency and Clinical Coordinator, leading dental assistant training and managing residency and learner programs. Support the Residency Director and Chief Dental Officer in overseeing dental residencies and externships while ensuring clinics are staffed with highly trained professionals. This role focuses on planning, implementing, and evaluating training to maintain safe, effective, and high-quality dental care. Essential duties and responsibilities:

 

  • Works closely with and provides support to the Residency and Learner Program Director and Chief Dental Officer concerning office management issues, activities and the status of projects
    • Analyze administrative workflow, identifies and evaluates the methods for improving workflow and cost effectiveness making recommendations to the Residency and Learner Program Director for improvement 
    • Develops, implements, and oversees the maintenance of filing, record keeping, distribution of materials, and other types of office/program systems.  Evaluates and standardizes office procedures and effectively troubleshoots and resolves issues
    • Acts as a liaison to other entities, internal departments, and divisions regarding resident recruitment, orientation, annual program affiliation agreements, and external rotations.
  • Maintain learner database for tracking, reporting, and ensuring programs are in compliance with procedures regarding licensing, moonlighting, annual contracts, and initial and re-credentialing of trainees
    • Manages the evaluative processes of the trainees, program, faculty, and rotations 
    • Oversee accurate completion of accreditation and re-accreditation documents affecting students/residents
    • Monitor program and curriculum compliance with accreditation requirements
    • Assists in the preparation for Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) Site Visits and internal reviews
    • Assists in monitoring residents’ duty hours and operative/case experience via regular review of data reports
  • Recruitment of Quality Dental Clinical Staff
    • Assist in recruiting through outreach events and participate in interview and hiring process of potential new clinical staff members
  • Onboarding of new Dental Clinical Staff
    • Orient and train new dental assistants in conjunction with the Clinic Manager and Lead Dental Assistant
    • Ensure that training of new dental assistant staff is completed timely, accurately and that staff can pass testing requirements
  • Competency and Ongoing Training of Existing Dental Clinical Staff
    • Assure annual competencies are completed for all dental assistants by Lead Dental Assistants
    • Identify areas needed for improvement and facilitate additional training to improve competency
    • Coordinates in-service education courses based on staff requests, identified needs, or availability
    • Train Clinic Managers and Directors on clinical dental processes in order to improve oversite at the site level
  • Quality Improvement
    • Ensure that dental department is current with evidence-based practices in dental care
    • Apply continuous quality improvement principles to assess opportunities for department improvement
    • Safety focus with involvement in Risk Management Committee and identification and mitigation of clinical dental risks
    • Coordinate with the grant writers to write grants, deliver data, stay on top of current dental grant opportunities along with follow up for active grants to manage deliverables
  • Ongoing Education of dental clinical staff
    • Create and maintain an educational workflow for new dental assistants and for trained dental assistants for continued growth and development to allow dental assistant to work at the top of their scope
  • Dental Clinic Compliance
    • Work with Risk Management Team to performs audits of clinic logbooks, dosesimitry badges, and prepare for accreditation site visits
    • Developing and implementing clinical policies in conjunction with the CDO and operations for all services under the dental department
  • Supervision of Lead Dental Assistants to include advanced training and completion of competencies. Annual Lead Dental Assistant training to include leadership and infection control. Provide scheduled check-in calls with each Lead Dental Assistant and provide clinical support
  • Travel to all dental clinical sites on a regular schedule
  • Chair side assisting as needed including preparation of operatory, patient education, sterilization, and documentation

 

Job Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and understanding of national accreditation policies, advanced knowledge of dental standards associated with OSHA, Infection control, safety and state regulations
  • High degree of initiative and independent judgement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with absolute confidentiality
  • Ability to make decisions independently or to escalate issues as needed

 

 

Education or Formal Training: Registered or Certified Dental Assistant, EDDA/EFDA and/or associate’s degree in field of dentistry; these requirements may be obtained while occupying the position.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of two years working in a dental clinic environment.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
