JOB DESCRIPTION
The Local Cybersecurity Coordinator will play a critical role in supporting local government units across Maryland to bolster their cybersecurity infrastructure. This position involves conducting cybersecurity assessments, identifying gaps, recommending solutions, and providing training and support to improve local cybersecurity resilience. The coordinator will work closely with stakeholders at the state, federal, and local levels to enhance the overall cybersecurity posture within Maryland.
ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of local networks, cybersecurity architecture, tools, policies, and plans.
- Identify vulnerabilities and gaps in security measures.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to remediate vulnerabilities and strengthen cybersecurity posture.
- Draft and refine cybersecurity policies and implementation plans.
- Provide training on cybersecurity topics and foster knowledge sharing.
- Prepare detailed reports for leadership, translating technical assessments into actionable insights.
- Establish strong relationships with government agencies and technical experts.
- Facilitate communication between technical teams and leadership to ensure cybersecurity goals are aligned.
QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIRED SKILLS
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Cyber Security Engineer, Cyber Manager, Cyber Analyst, or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity solutions and security technologies.
- Experience in performing security assessments in alignment with NIST Standards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to travel to jurisdictions within Maryland.
- Strong communication skills, especially with senior leadership and diverse stakeholders.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
