Duties & Responsibilities
- Evaluate and provide basic healthcare to students in case of injury or acute illness.
- Monitor and dispense prescription and OTC medications based on instruction from parents.
- Develop and manage Action Plans for students with chronic illness and disabilities. Administer medications as indicated in Action Plan.
- Examine and authenticate vaccination records. Provide information to DSHS.
- Organize and conduct Vision, Hearing, and Scoliosis screenings for new and current students. The school nurse should receive training from DSHS to comply with Texas State Law.
- Report any communicable diseases that by law need to be reported to county/APH.
- Follow and implement any Illness Protocols outlined by Veritas Academy.
- Maintain and update files on student’s health and medical history as needed.
- Be informed of students placed on Concussion Protocols/Extended Illness Plans and provide support and adequate treatment in case of a clinic visit.
- Provide nursing care for on campus activities such as but not limited to Defender Dash, Paideia Camp, Staff Inservice etc.
- Provide yearly Bloodborne Pathogen training to faculty and staff at inservice.
- Communicate with parents when students have symptoms of a communicable disease or a medical emergency.
Qualifications
Required Personal Qualities
- Have received Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior and believe that the Bible is God’s Word and standard for faith and daily living.
- Be in whole-hearted agreement with Veritas Academy’s Statements on Faith, Life, and Conduct.
- Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and action toward others (Luke 6:40). This includes being committed to God’s biblical standards for sexual conduct.
- Be a Christian who is, and will remain during the period of employment, an active member of a Christ-centered church, growing in his/her Christian relationship with God, and actively practicing and exhibiting Christian principles of the Christian faith.
- Be spiritually mature and consistently maintain a daily devotional and prayer life.
- Recognize the role of parents as primarily responsible before God for their children’s education and be prepared to assist them in that task.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in the use of Google Drive, database software, Google Calendar, e-mail, and ability to quickly learn new technologies.
- Ability to make sound medical decisions under pressure.
- Ability to remain organized, prioritize and manage time while working on several tasks simultaneously.
- Proven ability to build effective relationships with others.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing
- Registered Nursing License (good standing in Texas)
- 1 years of acute care experience (2 years preferred)
- BLS for healthcare professionals
Physical Demands:
- Take BLS, CPR, and first aid training at least every other year, maintain certification, and be willing and able to render such aid when necessary.
