School Nurse (T/Th only)

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Evaluate and provide basic healthcare to students in case of injury or acute illness.
2. Monitor and dispense prescription and OTC medications based on instruction from parents.
3. Develop and manage Action Plans for students with chronic illness and disabilities. Administer medications as indicated in Action Plan.
4. Examine and authenticate vaccination records.  Provide information to DSHS.
5. Organize and conduct Vision, Hearing, and Scoliosis screenings for new and current students.  The school nurse should receive training from DSHS to comply with Texas State Law.
6. Report any communicable diseases that by law need to be reported to county/APH.
7. Follow and implement any Illness Protocols outlined by Veritas Academy.
8. Maintain and update files on student’s health and medical history as needed.
9. Be informed of students placed on Concussion Protocols/Extended Illness Plans and provide support and adequate treatment in case of a clinic visit.
10. Provide nursing care for on campus activities such as but not limited to Defender Dash, Paideia Camp, Staff Inservice etc.
11. Provide yearly Bloodborne Pathogen training to faculty and staff at inservice.
12. Communicate with parents when students have symptoms of a communicable disease or a medical emergency.

Qualifications

Required Personal Qualities

1. Have received Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior and believe that the Bible is God’s Word and standard for faith and daily living.
2. Be in whole-hearted agreement with Veritas Academy’s Statements on Faith, Life, and Conduct.
3. Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and action toward others (Luke 6:40). This includes being committed to God’s biblical standards for sexual conduct.
4. Be a Christian who is, and will remain during the period of employment, an active member of a Christ-centered church, growing in his/her Christian relationship with God, and actively practicing and exhibiting Christian principles of the Christian faith. 
5. Be spiritually mature and consistently maintain a daily devotional and prayer life.
6. Recognize the role of parents as primarily responsible before God for their children’s education and be prepared to assist them in that task.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
2. Proficiency in the use of Google Drive, database software, Google Calendar, e-mail, and ability to quickly learn new technologies.
3. Ability to make sound medical decisions under pressure.
4. Ability to remain organized, prioritize and manage time while working on several tasks simultaneously.
5. Proven ability to build effective relationships with others.

Required Education and Experience:

1. Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing
2. Registered Nursing License (good standing in Texas)
3. 1 years of acute care experience (2 years preferred)
4. BLS for healthcare professionals

Physical Demands: 

1. Take BLS, CPR, and first aid training at least every other year, maintain certification, and be willing and able to render such aid when necessary.
