POSITION: Career Guidance Technician

Under the direction of the Assistant Principal-High School, provide a variety of information to students, faculty and parents regarding various professions, financial aid and post-secondary educational opportunities; assist students with defining goals and interests.
Minimum Qualifications Required to Apply
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college-level course work and three years responsible experience in student guidance or career counseling.
Essential Duties
Provide a variety of information to students, faculty and parents regarding various professions, financial aid and post-secondary educational opportunities. E
Assist students with defining goals and interests; locate information regarding topics of interest, schools and majors of interest for students as needed. E
Issue work permits to minors and assure students are in compliance with State and federal rules and regulations; record work permits; review student progress reports and report cards to check and verify eligibility; maintain files and time cards of Work Experience students. E
Assist students with locating scholarships appropriate to their needs; provide scholarship applications; type applications and letters of intent as requested; assure accuracy and completeness of applications; mail applications according to established time lines; maintain file of scholarships awarded to students. E
Remain current regarding new military programs, college entrance requirements and new programs and majors. E
Assist parents and students with the completion of SAT, ACT and financial aid forms; maintain an adequate supply of forms. E
Test in-coming students for math and English placement; maintain records of new student test scores; arrange for vocational testing and assist with evaluations as assigned. E
Operate a variety of equipment including a typewriter, copier, personal computer, school on-line computer and telephone, scantron machine and audio-visual equipment. E
Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to career guidance activities. E

Work with students to assist in defining goals and interests.
Assist students with program registration, enrollment and college entrance procedures.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Work confidentially with discretion.
Work independently with little direction.
Complete work with many interruptions.
Prepare and maintain records, files and reports.
Type at an acceptable rate of speed.
