Police Officer Job Announcement
Applications: Application packets are available at the Police Department, 401 East Irving Park Road, twenty-four hours a day, and at www.streamwood.org/jobs. Applications will be accepted until 4 PM, Friday, January 17, 2025. Your complete application and all required documents must be received by this time for you to be eligible to take the Police Officer Written Examination. The $15 application processing fee will be waived. The application and required documents may be:
- Mailed to Human Resources, 301 East Irving Park Road, Streamwood, Illinois 60107; or
- Returned in person on business days between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., to Human Resources, 301 East Irving Park Road, Streamwood, Illinois, or
- Returned in person on weekends and evenings, to the Police Station, 401 East Irving Park Road, Streamwood, Illinois.
Responsibilities: Streamwood Police Officers are responsible for the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, apprehension of criminals, and the enforcement of laws and ordinances. A police officer may be assigned to uniformed patrol, traffic control, crime prevention, investigative work, juvenile work, or other specialized departmental activity. Work involves an element of personal danger in the pursuit of duties. Officers must exercise independent judgment in meeting both routine and complex emergency situations and act without direct supervision. A significant portion of time involves public contact where discretion and tact is to be conscientiously exercised.
Residency Requirement: Within 18 months of hire, officers are required to reside within the area bounded by Lake Michigan on the east, Interstate 39/51 on the west, the Wisconsin border on the north, and Interstate 80 on the south.
Salary Range: $77,212-$115,696 currently; new contract to be negotiated effective January 1, 2025. Excellent fringe benefits including pension plan and health and dental insurance.
Qualifications: Applicants for the position of police officer shall possess a high school diploma or an equivalent high school education (G.E.D). Applicants must be at least twenty (20) years of age, but not have reached their thirty-fifth (35) birthday, as of the last date for filing of applications. A certified copy of the applicant’s birth certificate is required to be submitted at the time of application. Applicants must have reached their twenty-first (21) birthday, but not their thirty-sixth (36) birthday, by date of hire.
Two Year Eligibility List: The Streamwood Board of Fire and Police Commissioners will be preparing a two-year eligibility list for the position of Police Officer. Only those applicants who have passed and possess a Police Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) proficiency card from the Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy (NIPSTA) or other Village approved physical agility testing agency or application, issued within the past 12 months, prior to the time the “Final Eligibility List” is prepared by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners, and appearing on the eligibility list can be considered for Police Officer positions for this time period.
Testing: through National Testing Network (NTN). To register with NTN and schedule a test, go to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com, select ‘Find Jobs’, then select Law Enforcement Jobs and sign up for the Village of Streamwood. When you visit the www.nationaltestingnetwork.com website: 1. Complete the NTN registration process and schedule your test. 2. Review all information related to the Village of Streamwood Police Officer, including minimum requirements, salary, and benefits. 3. Review detailed information about the testing process. 4. Review the Frequently Asked Questions and take an online practice test (if desired). Upon completion of your scheduled exam, scores are automatically forwarded to the Village. Candidates who submit a complete employment application and attain a passing score on the entry level exam will be placed on Streamwood’s eligibility list. The Village of Streamwood will contact candidates on the list and will invite them to participate in further stages of the selection process.
