Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Part-Time Biomedical Research Technician to support ongoing projects in our laboratory. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in a biomedical research setting and possess expertise in various laboratory techniques. Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1.) Research and Experimentation
- Performance of general cell and molecular biology and biochemical laboratory techniques, such as tissue culture, Western blotting, immunoistochemistry, nuclei acid isolation, PCR, transfection, FACS analysis, cloning, mice handling, tissue collection etc. Prior lab experience is preferred.
2.) Lab Maintenance
- Perform general laboratory maintenance, including ordering chemicals, maintaining accurate and detailed records, managing laboratory inventory, and preparing reagents; Responsibilities also include supervising students in breeding and maintaining transgenic mice, disposing of chemical waste, dishwashing, and operating the autoclave, among other tasks.
3.) Training
- Training students and others on lab techniques and procedures
4.) Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Detailed oriented, highly organized & good math skills
- Have previous laboratory experience in general cell and molecular biology and biochemical laboratory techniques
- Must have ability to troubleshoot problems and ability to interpret data. Must interact well with colleagues. Minimal computer skills necessary
- Must have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in past experiences or a commitment to do so as a hourly employee at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
- Skills such as tissue culture, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, nuclei acid isolation, PCR, transfection, FACS analysis, cloning, mouse handling, tissue collection etc., are preferred
- BS degree in relevant area (life sciences, chemistry, or other science) or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
