What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time High School Career and College Navigator position at Virginia Highlands Community College?
Position Responsibilities:
- Work directly on site at an area high school to assist students with post-secondary academic/career planning at VHCC;
- Provide direct support for VHCC dual enrollment programming at the high school;
- Assist VHCC dual enrollment students with using MyVHCC, including email, SIS, Navigate, and Canvas;
- Utilize EAB Navigate to record notes on support/advising activities;
- Work with the VHCC Recruiter and the VHCC Dual Enrollment Coordinator to plan and lead recruitment events at the assigned high school;
- Partner with VHCC staff to schedule and lead VHCC campus tours;
- Guide perspective students through the VHCC admissions process, connecting them with admission and financial aid staff as needed;
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution;
- Valid driver’s license;
- Ability and willingness to travel to area high schools and to the VHCC campus;
- Excellent interpersonal skills to connect, engage, and maintain effective relationships with students and staff;
- Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks;
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills;
- Willingness to learn and utilize computer systems vital to the role, including the use of Salesforce, Navigate, and SIS (training will be provided);
- Demonstrated understanding of and belief in the mission of Virginia Highlands Community College.
- Experience working with high school students;
- Experience in a community college setting.
