What you do
Scheduled Shifts: Monday - Friday, optional Saturday (1/2 day) morning shifts available
Scheduled Hours: primarily 8:00am - 4:30pm with 30-minute lunch break

Greets and prepares patients for examinations and assists provider.

Clinical Responsibilities:
-
Instructs patients in the collection of urine specimens, as needed
-
Administers injections and medications
-
Dresses wounds and incisions
-
Interprets provider’s instructions to patients
-
Assists with minor surgery
-
Performs related tasks as directed
-

Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
-
Performs NSTs as ordered; file strips and belts per protocol.
-
Demonstrates efficient navigation of Electronic Health Record and pertinent electronic applications.
-
Obtains vital signs & history; records data in patient’s electronic chart.
-
Prepares lab requisitions, prints labels, and verifies patient identity by name and DOB for all labs.
-
Cleans and sterilizes instruments and equipment.
-
Educates patient and/or patient representative regarding medication and treatment.
-
Oversees provider’s schedule and handles triage for emergent patients.
-
Facilitates the efficient flow of patients.
-
Notifies patients of test results as directed by provider or practice protocol.
-
Maintains and updates surveillance of test results in computer system.
-
Schedules patient testing and procedures as ordered.
-
Refills patient prescriptions per practice protocol.
-
Opens and sorts daily mail.
-
Sends prenatal records to Labor and Delivery prior to patient’s delivery date.
-
Completes insurance forms and return to work slips.
-
Obtains authorizations and referral numbers as needed.
-
Attends required meetings.
-
Complies with Virginia Women's Center’s policies and procedures. Follows guidelines required by HIPAA, OSHA, and Red Flags regulations. Maintains appropriate attendance and punctuality as defined by Virginia Women's Center’s policy.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
-
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
-
State of Virginia Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse license
-
Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care
-
Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care
-
Knowledge of OSHA guidelines
-
Knowledge of VWC's computer system software and its functionality as it pertains to patient care
-
Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to Ob/Gyn specialty
-
Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence
-
Skill in maintaining departmental quality assurance and quality control standards
-
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and memos
-
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
-
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
-
Ability to maintain strictest patient confidentiality
-
Ability to communicate with patient to ascertain needs (requires independent judgment for assessing patient needs for appropriate preparation for exam; suggesting solution to patient phoning with problems; providing guidance and information regarding medication provided by physician)

Ability to obtain vital signs, administer medication, and monitor fetal heart and contractions

Ability to demonstrate accuracy and efficiency in recording information in patient charts, in labeling specimens, and in giving test results to patients

Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations

Ability to respond with flexibility to changing work load or patient assignments
-
Ability to perform effectively as a team member, supporting a patient-focused environment in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, and volunteers

Ability to type 30 words per minute
