Vista Veranda Assisted Living is Hiring a Medication Technician Near Lynwood, CA

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Dispense medication on trays for distribution, except Narcotics and injectable.
  • Dispense medication to all residents, per Doctor’s order.
  • Staff on duty shall be responsible to answer all incoming telephone calls and residents' emergency calls (intercom).
  • Check all medication for a timely refill, follow up with the Pharmacy, and call Medical Doctor on an updated or new prescription. Doctors are to be notified immediately by the staff on duty with any concerns regarding their patients.
  • The staff on duty receiving new admissions or admitting returning residents from higher levels of care shall be responsible for fax prescription to the Pharmacy and follow up with the Medical Doctors for all needed documentation. Relay all pertinent information to the following shift by recording them in the Log Book so the incoming residents will have a continuity of care.
  • All medication received on your shift, from the Pharmacy, or in case of a new resident from family members or from Nursing Home or etc., shall be immediately and properly documented in the MAR and filed in the MED CART.
  • Medication staff on duty shall be responsible to document any incident or observation that pertains to any change of conditions, falls, and or any incidents that occurred in his shift. In addition, all resident sent out to a higher level of care shall be documented at the time the resident was sent out. Staff on duty shall do all referrals calls to Doctors, family members, pharmacy, and all other concerned parties at the time the incident occurred. A verbal or a written report directed to the Administrative Staff shall be made by the on-duty staff describing the incidents or his observations.
  • Job performed in your shift, completed or unfinished, shall be documented in the logbook for continuity and proper turnover.
  • Medication cycle: Monthly medication cycle is part of a normal workload. Any unfinished work related to the monthly cycle shall be completed in the day received, therefore any unfinished work by the receiving staff shall be completed by the next shift.
  • Documentation is to be noted in the MAR, Medication Journal, and Log Book. All documentation is to be signed, dated and the time of the day identified.
  • Any noticeable slowing down of residents' physical abilities shall be given at most attention, documented, and reported to their Doctors for recommended physical therapy or refer them to a higher level of care for physical therapy.
  • Medication staff shall ascertain the completeness of the Physician report regarding residents' TB test and physical.
  • Semi-Annual records for weight gains or losses are to be documented for each resident.
  • Staff on duty shall ascertain that the medication room is in order and neat before the end of the shift.
  • Medication staff should ascertain that medication given to a resident is taken immediately and witnessed by the medication staff.
  • A medication staff shall be uniform at all times.
  • Medication cannot be disguised or force on the residents and should only be given per the doctor's orders.
  • Any call made to 911 is to be made only after the medication staff’s assessment. The assessment procedures are to be done in at most urgency and no risk is to be taken by the medication staff at the expense of the residents.
  • Do any other related duties such as; updating, encoding MAR data in the computer software (Point Check Care System).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be at least 18 years of age; High school graduate or equivalent GED preferred; Experience with elderly individuals preferred; Must maintain current first-aid certification, and meet in-service training requirements; Experience performing caregiving tasks preferred.
