What are the responsibilities and job description for the Member Experience Specialist I position at Volt Credit Union?
Who We Are
At Volt Credit Union, we like to think we’re a little different here, but frankly, we think different is good. Unlike the big banks, we’re a not-for-profit cooperative. We’ve been in business since 1935 to serve our members, make our community better, and serve the common good.
Culture is a big deal here. We’ve rolled up our sleeves and are doing what it takes to make this an awesome place to work. For us, that means banking doesn’t need to be boring, and neither does working here. We want to serve our community, be awesome to each other, ready for whatever comes our way, and hungry to learn and grow as people and professionals. And we want to have fun while we do it.
We do this by following these five mission-critical Culture Codes:
- Humanness: We embrace our humanness, stay positive, and make work fun.
- Resourcefulness: We solve problems by being resourceful, creative, and adaptable.
- Learning: We learn and grow together.
- Togetherness: We work hard at working well together.
- Serving: We take the initiative to serve our teammates and members.

About the Gig
Member Experience Specialist I will work directly on our Retail team. The primary responsibility of the Member Experience Specialist I is to create an amazing experience for our members who choose to use our phone, online, and mobile delivery channels to interact and conduct business with us.
We're looking for someone with proven financial, sales, and/or customer service experience. Your knowledge about banking procedures, security, and customer service are a big pluss. You’ll bring a human approach to your interactions with folks who come into your branch. They won’t feel pressured; they’ll feel like they’re talking with someone who cares an awful lot about helping them out because, well, you do.
You’ll be helping our members (that’s what we call our customers) with their transactions and other needs on the phone in our call center. We’re looking for people who are fast learners, and not afraid of whatever we throw their way.
You’ll be ridiculously good at figuring out how to help our members by uncovering their wants and needs and matching them up with products and services that will help them.
You’ll stay up to date on current policies, procedures, and regulations and you’ll be good at handling the paperwork, following up with members, and closing the deal.
You’ll be in Volt Wear and whatever shoes are most comfortable for you, but that’s not going to convince people we’re different. The way you TALK to people – your eagerness to say ‘yes’ to whatever crazy thing they throw at you – is what’s going to convince them that VOLT is an entirely new thing.
To be successful as the Member Experience Specialist I we are looking for someone with:
- 1 year call center or similar experience preferred
- 1 year of sales and/or advising or similar preferred
- 1 year financial institution (new account and/or loan) experience preferred
Other Skills:
- Well-organized, good mathematical ability, with strong problem-solving and negotiation skills
- Required to work at any credit union location that may include extended hours, holidays, or Saturdays
- Proficient knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, and Excel), as well as advanced keyboarding skills
Interpersonal Skills:
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Proven customer/member service skills
- Effective selling, cross-selling and referral skills or demonstrated ability
- Cooperative, able to coordinate and work well with others
- Maintains professional demeanor
- Professional appearance, dress, and attitude
- Lead by example and represent the highest level of member service
- Strong ability to multi-task and handle multiple priorities simultaneously
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, either independently or as a team
Education/Certifications/Licenses:
- Minimum of High School Diploma, or equivalent
