Position Title: Store Manager
Program: Thrift
Classification: Exempt
Reports To: District Manager
Objective
Provide operational and financial oversight and direction to the Thrift Retail store consistent with the short-and long-term interests of Volunteers of America Michigan and its employees
Essential Functions, Duties, & Responsibilities
1. Responsible for the daily operation of the Thrift Store and supervision of staff
· Manage overall activities of the store.
o Evaluate procedures and make recommendations for increased savings and cost reductions
o Walk areas of store to ensure service/security including outside dock, parking lots, production, bathrooms, offices, display counters, break room and sales floor
o Direct oversight of opening and closing procedures by delegated staff
· Provide leadership to staff and promote effective communication on all levels
· Develop and train workforce to ensure effective job performance
· Plan work schedules to ensure proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing, space and facilities for performance of duties
· Oversee compliance of staff with all established agency policies and procedures, such as safekeeping of agency funds and property, personnel practices, security, theft-prevention, and record-keeping procedures
· Create spreadsheets, letters and databases on PC using a variety of software applications
· Record and report daily sales figures to the District Manager
· Maintain safe working conditions for employees and customers; resolve safety concerns
· Ensure that store is in compliance with all employment, state and Federal laws
2. Additional Responsibilities
· Maintain compliance with VOA Michigan policies and procedures
· Ensure that all duties and responsibilities are carried out in a timely and orderly fashion so that VOA Michigan functions in the most efficient manner possible
· Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Enterpriseand Thrift
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Merchandising Management, Advertising or other related field with three years of management experience in retail or secondary retail sales or an equivalent combination of training and experience
· Demonstrated increasing responsibility and performance in acquired experience
· Knowledge of retail and or store management including personnel, inventories, cash accounting techniques, operation of cash registers, personal computers and basic security
· Ability to determine appropriate re-sale pricing on a wide variety of merchandise quality, price and age
· Knowledge of basic personnel and safety laws and requirements
· Basic knowledge and skill in the hiring and supervision of staff including motivational techniques, disciplinary action, evaluation and promotion
· Skill and ability to train and coach employees including, customer service, safety, cashiering and others
· Skill in basic organization to conduct meetings, to prioritize, track and complete assigned tasks
· Skill and ability in interaction with customers and knowledge of customer service including handling customer complaints and resolving disputes

· Ability to work flexible hours and travel as required
· Ability to independently perform all of the duties of the position efficiently and effectively
