Volusia County School District is seeking to fill several highly motivated and skilled School Way Café Interns. Candidate must possess two (2) years in school food service and/or food supervisory experience and have excellent customer service rapport with students and staff.Join us in Volusia for the ultimate balance between work & play. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· High School diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent
· Two (2) years experience in school food service or two years related food service work in a supervisory position, subject to approval by the Director, School Way Café
· Satisfactory score on math test administered by school district
· Successful completion of the following coursework before the end of the internship: Foundations: Introduction to Volusia County School Way Café and Quantity Food Preparation, and earn ServSafe Essentials certification
· Maintenance of satisfactory ratings on evaluations
· Must be available after work hours (on-call) as a part of the emergency and disaster team as assigned
· Satellite Delivery Only: Possess a valid Florida or state-issued Driver’s License, if not, agree to acquire a Florida Driver’s License within thirty (30) days of employment, except in a case where accommodation is required

POSITION GOALTo participate in a managerial internship program for School Way Café
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. *Attend classes taught by district staff to learn correct procedures for operation of the computerized cash register system and accompanying daily, weekly, and monthly reporting, proper cash handling and deposit procedures, menu planning, ordering of food and supplies, receiving, storage, and inventory control, sanitation procedures and record keeping, portion control, service procedures, food preparation and production reports, personnel procedures, supervision techniques, free and reduced meal procedures, special function procedures, creating work schedules and work simplification techniques, merchandising and customer service, maintaining acceptable grades and successfully completing course.
2. *Attend classes in quantity food preparation techniques, sanitation, recipe management, and equipment use and care, maintaining acceptable grades and successfully completing course.
3. *Work primarily with the cafeteria managers at a variety of schools to receive guidance and supervision in order to practice the skills learned in classes and to experience the different grade levels and school settings.
4. *Learn to schedule, train, supervise, and evaluate employees.
5. *Work with School Way Cafe assistants, helping to complete whatever task is being performed and to learn all aspects of cafeteria operation and management.
6. *Use effective, positive interpersonal communication skills, maintaining composure under stress.
7. *Work as a member of a team without close supervision to ensure that standards of performance are maintained, the objectives of the program are achieved, and to meet the goals of the district.
8. *Fill in for managers on an emergency basis.
9. *Respond during times of disaster/ emergency, as the need arises and according to SWC procedures, including evenings and weekends.
10. *Wear designated uniform and appropriate shoes.
11. *Take an active part in the district nutrition education program.
12. *Perform various duties by climbing ladders, stairs and/ or ramps.
13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, School Way Café and/or school-level Manager, SWC.
