Role Summary / Purpose
The primary function of this role is to advance the development of Wartsila’s Battery Intelligence Platform, a tool that enables customers to get insights from the Energy Management Systems Data. The Battery Data Scientist will assist in the development of algorithms, simulation tools, forecasting methods and optimizations for energy systems in Python. The role will be an integral part of the Simulation and Data Science team in a Research and Development role, working to accelerate the development of our software capabilities while supporting new product development initiatives.
The preferred location for this role is Herndon, VA.
Essential Responsibilities
- Track and report ongoing lab tests.
- Build statistical models to predict and track energy storage performance.
- Apply lab insights to field data for diagnostics and recommendations.
- Test and validate models using lab and field data.
- Create cloud-based processes for training and validating models.
- Deploy forecast models for automated results retrieval.
- Turn models into software and test them on historical data.
- Collaborate with cloud services teams to optimize and debug Python solutions in a hybrid environment.
- Optimize models for time series analysis, forecasting, and energy management.
- Develop algorithms for battery performance metrics like State of Charge (SoC) and State of Health (SoH).
- Document new methods and model improvements for clarity and justification.
The candidate must be able to embrace the fast and dynamic environment of a growth stage company, comfortable with adjusting quickly to changing priorities.
