REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must hold a valid Kentucky teaching or substitute teaching certificate or Statement of Eligibility (SOE)
OR hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
OR have 64-96 semester hours of college credit with at least a 2.50 GPA
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Substitute Teacher’s role is to enable each child to pursue his/her education as smoothly and completely as
possible in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES & EVALUATION CRITERIA
Reports to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school building and upon departure of
the school building at the end of the day
Maintains, as fully as possible, the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which
assigned
Teaches the lesson(s) outlined and described in a lesson plan(s) prepared by the absent teacher
Consults, as appropriate, with the building principal, department head, team leader or collaborating teacher
before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the absent teacher’s lesson plan
Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during lunch and recess periods
Reports in writing, with notes left for the absent teacher, the assignments made and comments regarding student
behavior
Follows all policies, rules and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice
dictates
Maintains regular attendance, working as needed
Performs other related duties as assigned
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is performed while sitting, standing or walking and requires the use of hands for simple grasping and
fine manipulations. The work at times requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching, with the ability
to lift, carry, push or pull light weights.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary shall be commensurate with the adopted certified substitute teacher salary schedule. Employment shall
be year to year and work schedule shall be on an as needed basis.
