What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marine / Industrial Paint Supervisor position at Washburn & Doughty Associates, Inc.?

Primary Function

Hands on work leader for painting activities at a small commercial shipyard.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Areas of accountability include safety, quality, productivity, and schedule performance of all paint department related processes.
  • Holds specific trade knowledge supporting confident supervisory direction.
  • Always pursues best practices for compliance and production results.
  • Understanding of how trade work impacts workflow of other trades.


Technical Trade Knowledge Desired

  • Advanced knowledge of marine paints, properties and application requirements.
  • Ability to read blueprints to order paint is a plus but will train the right person.
  • 5 years of professional painting experience.
  • Commercial airless spray-painting experience with two-part epoxy paint.
  • Commercial sand blasting and metal surface preparation experience.
  • NACE or SSPC certification (or ability to obtain within a reasonable time frame).
  • Ability to accurately document paint events.

Planning & Organizing

  • Plans tracks and monitors work according to published schedules.


Delegation & Supervision

  • Time cards and labor hours work package distribution.
  • Proactive and appropriately pursues change orders when necessary.
  • Reviews man hour performance and implements a plan to achieve manning budget and performance goals.
  • Demonstrates ability to take charge and direct others in accomplishing work.
  • Effectively selects and motivates crews, encourages career development for crew members and completes timely reviews.


Teamwork

  • Works collaboratively with other W&D Trades and personnel.
  • Utilizes individual skills and strengths for the benefit of the team.
  • Supports safety, quality and man hour utilization goals.


Communications

  • Verbal and written communications are clear and concise.
  • Demonstrates good listening skills.
  • Takes time to communicate with all crew members offering constructive ongoing dialogue.


Other Job Requirements

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule with some evening 2nd shift work along with some weekend time. Normal Hours are 7:00 am thru 5:30 pm, Monday-Thursday. During major paint events Fridays, evenings and/or Weekends will be expected.
  • Skilled in directing and coordinating the work of others.
  • Must have strong commitment towards safety and working safe.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and ability to get along with various personnel and work as a member of a team.
  • Must be an effective communicator with management and direct reports.

  • Starting pay will be commensurate with experience.
