SUMMARY

The Rehab Services Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of all department specific staff, for training employees and collaborating with the Department Director to assess performance of employees. The Supervisor ensures appropriate staffing and scheduling when assigned by the Department Director. Supervisor ensures that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis. Supervisor maintains efficient and effective department operation while requiring compliance with all state, federal, and local regulatory laws, standards, and protocols. This person also performs the duties of a staff physical therapist with regard to patient care, communication with physician's, families, and appropriate team members.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following) The Rehab Services Supervisor has all the duties and responsibilities of the Staff Physical Therapist. (See Staff Physical Therapist job description.) In addition to these duties, the director has the following responsibilities:

• Assists the Department Director with the assessment of personnel in performance of duties to evaluate efficiency, skill, abilities, and attitudes toward co-workers and patients for use in recommended personnel actions. Staff scheduling is included in these duties. The Supervisor is responsible for monitoring the health of the staff, and submitting illness reports.
• The Supervisor is responsible for the training of staff or the appropriate delegation of staff training to capable personnel.
• Supervisor will assist the Department Director with the supervision of rehabilitation contract employees while they are practicing in our facility. This includes maintenance of appropriate staff health records, credentialing, record keeping, and charges.
• Supervisor is responsible for communicating with academic institutions regarding potential and present PT/PTA students. Adherence to hospital HIPAA guidelines will be monitored by the Supervisor for students and volunteers in the department.
• Collaborating with the Department Director to identify Quality Assurance measurements and reporting the data on a monthly basis to the Department Director.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Current Iowa license.
• A broad range of physical therapy experience in a variety of settings is helpful, as is management and supervisory experience.
• Good verbal and written communication skills at a variety of levels.
• Manual dexterity for operating equipment and providing patient treatment.
• Ability to motivate staff and patients.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• The Rehab Services Supervisor must be licensed to practice physical therapy in the State of Iowa.
• Must be a graduate of a CAPTE accredited college or university with a certificate, master’s degree, or doctorate in physical therapy. 
• Must have current BCLS certification. 
• Must be able to demonstrate strong leadership skills.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• This person must be able to read and communicate effectively in English, with strong written and verbal skills. 
• A basic knowledge of computer skills is required for electronic signature and editing of on-line dictation, and utilization of exercise software. 
• Must be able to maintain control and respond calmly and positively during crisis situations.
