Position Summary
The Assistant Manager of Engineered Systems supports the Manager of Engineered Maintenance Systems (MEMS) in the daily operational tasks and oversight of the campus engineered systems. This includes, but is not limited to, fire/safety systems, elevators, generators, solar panel systems, backflows, and the mechanics and contractors supporting these systems. The Assistant Manager assists the MEMS with state, county, and city compliance requirements for maintenance, testing, permitting and certification of assigned systems. Additionally, they assist in project management, bid creation, customer service, and documentation for paint and other projects. They also are responsible for maintaining a working relationship with local authorities, contractors, campus community, and the University insurance providers who have jurisdiction and/or vested interest in the fire systems.
This critical role requires 24-hour a day, seven days a week availability to respond immediately and fully to the emergency needs of the University.

Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assists the MEMS in the management of the Fire/Safety and paint groups in directing and coordinating field support for the planning, installation, utilization, testing, troubleshooting of software and hardware related to fire/safety systems, as well as the planning, bidding, completion, and review of paint and other projects for the University.
- Ensures regulatory compliance with various systems including fire alarms, fire suppression, elevators, generators, solar systems, backflows and fleet maintenance, through scheduling, coordinating, and maintaining clear and accurate testing, compliance correspondence, and maintenance/repair records for all fire alarm and suppression systems. Compliance must be met with NFPA, IBC, IFC, Federal, State and City codes, other regulatory requirements & agreed upon FM Global.
- Provides technical support and feedback on all varied aspects of complex systems, including reviewing project construction plans, attending meetings, consulting with campus users, and being an advocate for more efficient, informative and reliable campus systems.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
