Position Description
Job Description:
The foreman, reporting directly to the superintendent, is responsible for the supervision, scheduling and coordination of crews of laborers and concrete finishers engaged in a variety of activities including but not limited to the construction of roads, sidewalks, curb and gutter, box inlets, etc. Additionally, the foreman is responsible for operating any concrete equipment on the job as well as ensuring equipment and tools are properly maintained.
This position is one in which a momentary lapse of attention may result in grave and immediate danger to themselves and others; therefore, this position is classified as safety sensitive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for supervising and participating in the work of a crew of laborers, concrete finishers and leadmen, engaged in a variety of activities necessary to construct highway and municipal roads.
- Receives written or oral assignments, contracts the crew and collects necessary equipment, assigns work for each member of the crew, and instructs men in proper methods of work.
- Responsible for inspecting work to ensure conformance with given standards and makes necessary adjustments in assignments and methods to correct deficiencies.
- Supervises and participates in the operation of concrete equipment including heavy and light equipment, trucks and other equipment and tools.
- Responsible for performance of routine automobile and equipment inspections and maintenance.
- Operates pipe laser, level, total station, and GPS and related equipment to set grades.
- Assists Superintendent and Project Manager in the Preparation, administering and monitoring of the budget for each job.
- Maintains records of materials, equipment and manpower assigned to jobs; maintains records of sufficient detail to indicate total job costs when completed.
- Process timecards and sick leave/vacation for crew members.
- Performs related work as may be required.
Position Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- Considerable knowledge of materials, methods, techniques commonly used in concrete construction activities.
- Considerable knowledge of the hazards and applicable safety precautions of public works operations.
- Working knowledge of the construction operation and equipment used in concrete construction and ability to train others on the use of all hand tools such as float, trowel, jointer, edger, and broom, etc.
- Ability to lay out, direct and supervise the work of a crew to obtain efficient results.
- Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written directions including plan details.
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with employees.
- Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and professional manner.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Considerable construction experience, preferably in Heavy-Highway industry.
- Prior responsibility on large multi-million-dollar projects.
