As a dual-mission regional university committed to open-access education, the Dean of Students provides leadership in fostering a student-centered campus environment that supports student success and engagement.
Reporting to the Vice President for Student Access and Success, the Dean of Students will serve as an integral member of the Student Access and Success Council and will oversee key functions, including Student Conduct, Housing and Residential Life, Student Involvement and Leadership, the Shepherd Union, and the University Dining Contract.
The Dean of Students will champion student success while leading initiatives to enhance campus life, strengthen student engagement, and support students in navigating challenges during their educational journey. This position plays a crucial role in creating a supportive environment that aligns with the university’s mission of access, community, and learning.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership for Student Conduct, Housing and Residential Life, Student Involvement and Leadership, the Shepherd Union, and the University Dining Contract to enhance student experiences.
- Serve on the Student Access and Success Council.
- Oversee budget management, personnel supervision, and program development for assigned departments.
- Ensure student-focused programs align with institutional goals, best practices, and national trends in higher education.
- Lead Student Conduct Office, ensuring policies uphold student rights while promoting accountability and education-based resolutions.
- Advocate for student success by addressing barriers, and concerns, to retention and completion.
- Enhance student safety, crisis response, and behavioral intervention in collaboration with campus and community partners while serving as a member of our STAR and CARE Teams.

- Master’s degree
Work Experience:
- Seven years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs, including leadership and supervision of professional staff.
- Three years of supervisory experience.
- Experience with higher education laws and regulations, including FERPA, Title IX, ADA, and Clery Act compliance.
Preferred Qualifications

- Terminal Degree in a related field.
- Ten years of experience in student affairs with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Proven leadership in student engagement, residential education, and campus life initiatives.
- Experience managing student conduct, housing, student engagement, and/or student union operations.
- Strong knowledge of student development, crisis management, advocacy, and success strategies.
- Expertise in budget management, policy development, strategic planning, and assessment.
- Skilled in collaboration across divisions to enhance student success and retention.
- Experience managing university dining or auxiliary service contracts.
- Proficiency in English and Spanish at an advanced level.
