The position is for a Lead Senior Java Software Engineer for Equities Low Touch Technology group to drive the continued build out of the Low Touch Data Hub and next generation Equity Data Analytics platform for all Equities Front Office trading groups.

Requires strong technical knowledge of Kafka, Java (C would be helpful but not must have), time series databases and a solid foundation of server design methodologies. Must be able to write highly functional and performant code in a structured manner that can be applied to domains beyond equity electronic trading. Successful applicant will help enhance, build and deliver application frameworks.

Candidates applying for this position should be prepared to work in this software environment with the following expectations:

• Perform in the high level technical and analytics role developing software for the various trading components

• Provide mentorship and technical leadership/subject matter expertise to a team of Data and Analytics developers in a high performing Agile team environment

• Work directly with business analysts, traders, sales, operations group to understand requirements

• Create thorough designs - taking care to assure that designs integrate well into existing architecture

• Write high quality code in Java using object oriented principals and design patterns as appropriate

• Perform high quality thorough unit testing and documentation of development activities

• Work on complex problems where analysis of situations and/or data requires a solid grasp of business domains

• Assure quality, maintainability, and extensibility for supported systems and low latency applications

• Provide Level 3 production support as required

In this role, you will:

  • Lead moderately complex initiatives and deliverables within technical domain environments
  • Contribute to large scale planning of strategies
  • Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs associated with technology domain, including upgrades and deployments
  • Review moderately complex technical challenges that require an in-depth evaluation of technologies and procedures
  • Resolve moderately complex issues and lead a team to meet existing client needs or potential new clients needs while leveraging solid understanding of the function, policies, procedures, or compliance requirements
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and mid-level managers to resolve technical challenges and achieve goals
  • Lead projects and act as an escalation point, provide guidance and direction to less experienced staff

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 5 years of application development experience
  • 5 years of working with computing Algorithms and Data Structures
  • 5 years of Object Oriented experience
  • 4 years of designing and implementing distributed systems paradigms
  • 4 years of “big data” experience, time series/relational databases
  • 3 years of experience developing multi-tiered, low latency, highly reliable, applications
  • 3 years in Core Java development with expert understanding of memory management, concurrency, native I/O.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced experience in capital markets business and processes
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of SEC, FINRA, and international regulations for building technological solutions.
  • Cash Equities, Global Markets trading - trade workflow knowledge, FIX experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of application lifecycle, from design and development to testing, implementation and production support
  • Knowledge and understanding of technology architecture distributed and client server technologies
  • Prior Team Lead and/or direct/matrix management experience is desirable
  • Kafka experience or other producer/consumer (pub/sub) messaging platforms
  • Docker/Kubernetes experience
  • Outstanding communication skills as required for a front office role
  • A BS/BA degree or higher

Pay Range

$138,500.00 - $287,600.00 Annual
