The Sacred Oaks Healing Center (SOHC) provides residential substance use and behavioral health care to American Indian/Alaska Native youth ages 12-17. The average length of stay is 4 months. The care is provided by a multi-disciplinary treatment team. That team consists of a Psychiatrist, Nurse Practitioner, clinical social worker, substance use counselor, nursing team members, and direct care staff.

WORK SHIFT: The center is a residential treatment facility operating 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. There is no set schedule as it is based upon facility needs. Workers typically work eight (8) hours per day, 40 hours per week. There may be a need for overtime based upon patient care needs/emergency or staffing shortages..

EXPERIENCE: 1 year of post licensure nursing experience), with an unrestricted license to practice (preferably with pediatric or ER experience)

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Provides direct residential nursing services, including 1) screens patients and elicits patient history; 2) assesses needs and refers for care; 3) coordinates medications with pharmacy; 4) supervises medication administration for licensed and/or certified staff, operates medical equipment; 5) records observations, assessment and intervention on patient’s medical records; and 6) provides and assist in the provision of emergency treatment.
• Assists with the program planning for the nursing activities. Counsels patients and/or families in regards to planning continuity of care and implementing physician’s direction in relation to health maintenance, home care, prevention of disease conditions, etc.
• Refers patients to appropriate resources.
• Develops nursing policies and procedures. Participates in quality improvement activities for nursing. Participates in meeting accreditation standards. Serves on planning committees.
• Ensures medical/nursing documentation and activities for admission, during treatment, and discharge are completed, including coordinating medical/dental appointments.
• Prepares and submits nursing reports.
• Maintains supplies and equipment, upkeep of nursing area and maintains safe environment.

 
Requirements

• Compliance with all Indian Health Service required training provided by SOHC.
• Completion of Crisis Prevention Institute training on safe de-escalation techniques including therapeutic holds.
• A valid unrestricted license as a RN or LVN,
• Current BLS.
• Proof of vaccinations/titer for the following: MMR, COVID-19, Hep B, and Influenza.
• They must additionally provide a negative PPD in the last 12 months.
• Work requires considerable walking as well as standing and sitting.
• Must possess the ability to attend outdoor recreational/cultural activities when needed which can cause incumbent to be in extreme cold/hot weather.
• High levels of stress may be experienced in relation to work with residents with substance use, behavioral health, and other co-occurring disorders.
• Emergency and/or crisis situations may require physical effort to restrain patient, and occasional lifting of objects up to 30 pounds. Staff will be trained in therapeutic holds techniques and will be required to implement these physical management tools in crisis
