POSITION TITLE:  Instructional Coach, West Greene (Grades 2-3) 

STATUS: Full-Time

REPORTS TO:        Director K-12 Curriculum & STEM Education

EVALUATED BY:   Director K-12 Curriculum & STEM Education

 

Position Summary:
The Instructional Coach will work closely with teachers and school leadership in Grades 2-3 to support the implementation of the district curriculum and enhance instructional practices. This role involves direct classroom support through demonstrations, one-on-one coaching, and professional learning facilitation. The focus will be on helping teachers engage students, deepen their understanding of core subjects, and improve their proficiency in meeting state standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in curriculum & instruction or a related educational field.
  • 8 years of demonstrated effectiveness as a classroom teacher and teacher leader.
  • Strong knowledge of North Carolina content standards.
  • Science of Reading Certification.
  • Deep understanding of pedagogy and teaching methodologies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and conflict management.

Key Responsibilities:

Data-Driven Instruction

  • Guide teachers in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to support instructional decisions in all content areas.
  • Ensure curriculum maps and Canvas courses are up-to-date and accurately reflect district requirements.

 

Curriculum Development and Integration

  • Assist teachers in creating tasks/lesson plans that incorporate technology and workforce skills, aligned with state standards.
  • Collaborate with instructional support staff and district leadership to align efforts toward achieving strategic goals.
  • Encourage inquiry-based instruction and the integration of Portrait of a Graduate skills into tasks/lessons in all content areas.

Teacher Support and Coaching

  • Provide direct coaching to teachers through modeling lessons, co-teaching, and professional development to enhance instruction.
  • Offer emotional and practical support to teachers through individualized coaching strategies.
  • Assist new staff in understanding and implementing core curricula and instructional expectations.

Professional Development and Collaboration

  • Coordinate and present professional development opportunities focusing on instructional strategies, 21st-century skills, and core curricula.
  • Lead meetings and participate in district and external professional development to refine coaching and teaching skills.
  • Collaborate with school principals to promote professional respect and accountability.

Technology and Resource Management

  • Provide guidance in integrating technology into content areas, supporting both instructional and technical troubleshooting needs.
  • Oversee the setup and maintenance of supplemental instructional programs and manage bookroom inventory.
  • Ensure the fidelity of core curricula and assist with the ordering of materials and year-end processes.

Literacy and Legislative Compliance

  • Support evidence-based reading instruction and ensure compliance with Reading to Achieve (RTA) legislative requirements, including the development of Literacy Intervention Plans and managing Individual Reading Plans.
  • Complete required training, including LETRS and DIBELS, and lead DIBELS testing refreshers to ensure accuracy in reading assessments.
  • Assist in preparing and distributing materials for Summer Camp and other literacy initiatives.

Other Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate sound judgment in handling sensitive issues.
  • Maintain physical and mental stamina to manage challenging work schedules, including occasional evenings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet district and school goals.
