Employee will be assigned to the Division of Air Quality, Permitting Section. Under close supervision of a licensed professional engineer, performs work at the entry-level, in a training capacity, on a variety of engineering services necessary to the Permitting Section.
Duties include:
- Reviewing and processing air pollution control permit applications to ensure that facilities are designed and operated in accordance with applicable state and federal air pollution control laws and regulations, as well as consistency with sound engineering practices.
- Preparing draft permits which are reviewed prior to issuance for accuracy and completeness.
- Developing and maintaining knowledge of existing and new state and federal regulations and air pollution technologies through training and independent study.
- Conducting routine complaint response inspections and investigations.
- Composing reports detailing recommendations, conclusions and findings.
- Initiating procedures for pursuing administrative enforcement actions, as appropriate.
- Preparing a variety of reports and correspondence and updates computer data files on a regular basis.
- Conducting field inspections which may require walking over rugged terrain and inclement weather.
- May perform other duties as required.
Note: Regular attendance is an essential part of this position.

Minimum Qualifications
Training: Bachelor’s degree in any engineering curriculum.
AND
Satisfactory completion of the examination on the fundamentals of engineering (FE).
OR
Current certification in good standing as an Engineer Intern issued by the West Virginia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
NOTE: At the appointing agency’s discretion, competitive candidates may receive probationary appointment pending official verification of the qualifying training, examination or certification. The qualifying training, examination or certification must be verified before the employee may be certified permanent.
