We are seeking a passionate and dedicated General Studies Teacher to join our dynamic team. As a General Studies Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the academic and personal development of our students.

Established in 1948 in Mamaroneck, NY, Westchester Day School, a Modern Orthodox, co-educational, dual curriculum Jewish elementary school (2-year-olds through 8th grade), prepares students to live as mensches and lifelong learners and inspires them to impact the world around them by cultivating a commitment to Torah, midot, community and academic rigor.
Responsibilities include:
- Teach Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science
- Develop and implement unit plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the diverse learning needs of each student
- Use a variety of instructional strategies
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with children and parents.
- Effectively utilize technology to enhance student learning
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a positive learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Challenge students to become active independent learners and encourage each child's curiosity and creativity.
- Foster respect for others, a commitment to values, and Tikkun Olam (repairing the world)
- Evaluate students' academic and social growth through both formative and summative assessments, maintain records, and modify instruction to promote student growth and learning
- Identify student needs, make appropriate referrals, and develop strategies to implement Individual Education Plans
- Communicate regularly with parents through newsletters, conferences, email, and phone calls to discuss students' progress, sharing successes and working in partnership to enhance student development.
- Provide appropriate supervision for all children at all times.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues
- Stay current with best practices and trends in education. Participate in professional development opportunities and seek continuous growth and improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field (Master's degree preferred)
- Experience in working with elementary-aged students
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Passion for teaching and a commitment to student success
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students
- Knowledgeable about current evidence-based teaching practices and assessment methods
- Responsive Classroom training preferred
- Flexibility, creativity, and a growth mindset
- Knowledge of Jewish practice preferred
Salary range for this role is $65,000-$75,000, depending upon education and experience.
