$7,500 per season. Monday Thru Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

WHITEHALL TOWNSHIP POSITION DESCRIPTION
Class Title: Camp Whitehall Director
Department: Recreation
GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs routine and complex administration and supervisory work in planning, organizing, coordinating, administering, and supervising activities in a day camp environment.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the direct supervision of the Bureau Chief of Recreation.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervises camp leaders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages and supervises assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources; plans and organizes workloads and leader assignments; trains, motivates and evaluates assigned staff; reviews progress and directs changes as needed.
Provides leadership and direction in the development of short and long range plans; gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations; coordinates camp activities with other leaders.
Prepares daily attendance sheets and contacts campers who are "no shows" without reason.
Creates daily schedule of activities and plans entire eight-week camp session with the camp leaders.
Directs camp leaders on the preparation of a weekly news article from each camp outlining the highlights of the previous weeks' activities, and the week activities coming up.
Supervises camp leaders and interacts when requested.
Assures own arrival at camp 30 minutes before beginning of day and remains the entire day. Permission must be obtained from the Bureau Chief of Recreation if leaving camp before the end of the day. Attendance is required until the end of the day, until all campers and camp leaders have left the camp area.
Ensures the building used for camp is locked and secured daily.
Develops flyers, memos, etc. for distribution to campers within two days of special requests (theme day, or craft activity that requires materials brought from home).
Coordinates with Department secretary the number of campers per week to prevent over enrollment.
Reviews and figures out camp leaders' timecards to be submitted to the Bureau Chief.
Communicates with parents on various problems with campers. Coordinates swim lessons with Aquatic Director and Head Lifeguards. Attempts to be available for camp leader interviews.
Coordinates with camp leaders to order the materials, equipment, or instruction needs for each
event.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES
Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phones, answering radio pages, running errands, picking up supplies, helping set up tables and chairs as needed.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from a four year college or university with a degree in education or a closely related field.
- One year related experience; or Any equivalent combination of education and
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of special events planning and administration; considerable knowledge of the equipment and techniques used in a day camp environment;
- Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment;
- Ability to develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in a day camp environment program; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with camp leaders, supervisors, camp participants, and the general public; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Possess current first aid and CPR
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid state driver's license or ability to obtain one.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Personal computer, including word processing software; calculator; copy and fax machines; phones, mobile or portable radio; and automobile.
