Seasonal Public Works Laborer
$13.00 per hour. Monday-Friday 6:30 am until 3:00 pm
Anticipated to work May 19th through August 22, 2025
MUST BE OVER 18. MUST BE A FULL TIME STUDENT
GENERAL PURPOSE
To assist in a wide variety of routine maintenance work, requiring manual skills in the maintenance of the Township's parks and properties. Performs work with general instructions, although some specific tasks may require detailed assignment. Work is outdoors and involves exposure to the elements.
Work is performed under the immediate and close supervision of the Supervisor in the Recreation Bureau or his/her designate.
Typical Duties And Responsibilities
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk/hear. The employee must be able to occasionally push or pull. The employee must be able to life and/or move up to 50 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work will be outdoors and will include exposure to the elements.

Typical Duties And Responsibilities
- Operates a push mower, weedwhacker, hedge trimmer, edger, shovel, rake, tamper, and other hand equipment, as needed, in the maintenance of lawns and for landscaping.
- Mows lawns; weeks, trims bushes, performs minor pruning of trees and hedges.
- Performs landscaping by planting grass, trees, shrubs and flowers, leveling ground, filling in holes with ground using rakes, shovels and tamper.
- Cleans up grounds, before and after mowing.
- Rakes leaves and puts down mulch as needed.
- Edges sidewalks.
- Sweeps, picks up litter, empties garbage cans, paints.
- Assists Pool Technician in the maintenance of the municipal swimming pools, as needed.
- Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various park and recreation programs, assists in preparing facilities for park and recreational use.
- Keeps records of work completed.
- Performs related work, as required.
- Current college student, with expectation of enrollment as a full-time college student in the following fall.
- Possession of a current, valid state driver's license.
- Ability to perform manual work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to assignment.
- Ability to life heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and perform strenuous physical labor.
- Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
- Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
