Job Description Summary:
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITYThe Microinjection Specialist supports scientific research by performing a range of specialized embryology tasks both independently and collaboratively. Key responsibilities include conducting preimplantation stage mouse embryo injections to support the generation of genetically modified mice for research purposes. This role also involves performing embryo transfer surgeries and assisting with mouse colony maintenance. Additionally, the Microinjection Specialist will contribute to training team members in microinjection techniques, enhancing the team's technical proficiency.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
- Analyze data to evaluate current methodologies, and actively engage in discussions regarding alternative approaches and improvements.
- Perform precise embryo manipulations, including cell injections into blastocyst-stage mouse embryos.
- Conduct mouse surgeries to implant manipulated embryos.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new laboratory techniques (e.g., 2-cell injections).
- Perform basic mouse husbandry tasks, including setting up breeding cages and managing weaning of pups.
- Organize and maintain an accurate electronic mouse database for research records.
- Complete other duties as assigned to support Core operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Reproductive Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field or equivalent experience is required.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in mouse microinjection and embryo transfer techniques.
- Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Proficiency in fundamental laboratory techniques and molecular biology principles is advantageous.
- Willingness to handle and manipulate live mice in compliance with ethical standards.
- Prior hands-on experience working with mouse models is essential.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel or similar database software is preferred.
