What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-time Rural Advocate position at Wholeness Center?
General description of duties
Responsible for providing direct services to adults and children who have been the victims of domestic violence or sexual assault.
Hours
Full-time position hours are typically weekdays (Monday-Friday) from 9 am - 5 pm, but these hours are flexible.
The hours of a part-time position would vary according to the needs of the agency and program. Examples include times when the in-shelter client load is heavy, during special community events, when other staff is out for illness or vacation, etc.
With both the full-time position and the part-time position, a rotating on-call schedule to cover nights, weekends and holidays outside of normal office hours will also be included.
Supervision
This position reports directly to the Wholeness Center’s Rural Advocate/Director.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
§ Maintaining confidentiality at all times;
§ Providing supervision and support to shelter residents;
§ Working with drop-in and scheduled clients;
§ Providing crisis intervention services off-site as needed (hospital, police station, etc.);
§ Providing personal and legal advocacy;
§ Assisting clients with action plans, safety plans, etc.;
§ Coverage of the 24-hour crisis line;
§ Transporting clients when appropriate;
§ Making appropriate referrals to clients;
§ Attending staff meetings;
§ Participating in fundraising activities and events;
§ Maintaining positive working relationships with other agencies and local law enforcement;
§ Maintaining all required paperwork, client files and data;
§ Working closely with the Rural Advocate/Director to ensure delivery of services;
§ Housekeeping and secretarial duties as needed;
§ Any other duties as instructed by the Rural Advocate/Director
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- At least 2 years experience in Human Services Field
- Experience in working with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of day to day operations of a non-profit shelter
- Experience working with people of all ages, backgrounds, and cultures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- The ability to manage a flexibility in scheduling
- The ability to handle multiple tasks
