What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nutritional and Dietetic Consultant position at Wills Eye Hospital?
Primary Function:
- Assists the Nursing Management Team in formulating, implementing and achieving the goals and objectives of the hospital?s food service and clinical nutrition services. Assists with the direction and supervision of departmental functions related to patient service activities to assure patients nutritional needs are met in accordance with practitioners? orders and acceptable standards of practice. Will also assist in developing, evaluating and implementing quality improvement initiatives that meet departmental standards and continue to enhance patient services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinates and supervises patient service activities as they relate to Food Services:
- Assures dietetic nutritional screenings completed as necessary for inpatients and proper nutritional needs are met following consultations with patients and nursing-support staff.
- Coordinates and reviews menu selections for patients based upon demand, availability and nutritional requirements.
- Reviews inpatient menus annually to insure they are meeting dietary requirements in-line with best practices.
- Reviews, evaluates and assists in making changes as needed to hospital nutritional policies:
- Reviews and evaluates all necessary work policies to meet both state, federal and departmental objectives and requirements.
- Readily revises and implements new work tasks that meet changing demands and needs for the department.
- Monitors and develops quality improvement initiatives that enhance the quality of nutritional services. Monitors Regulatory Compliance and other legal mandated functions:
- Assists nursing management in formulating specific quality improvement measures
- Assists in developing training programs for support staff, assuring that established policies and procedures are maintained including:
- Safe practices for food handling
- Emergency food supplies
