Specific Job Duties:
Kennel
- Performs Daily cleaning of kennels, cages, and public areas, following proper disease control protocol to ensure a sterile environment
- Keep Director informed of animal behavior, health, or concerns.
- Stock all kennel/cleaning supplies as needed
- Stock areas and spot-clean kennels and public areas throughout the day
- Handle New Animals in-processing: Weights, temps, and overall check of each animal for condition or medical ailments.
- Complete required in-take paperwork.
- Work with adopter to ensure the know all of their responsibilities as new pet owners
- Communicate and coordinates with Animal Control Director and staff on adoptions and rescues.
- Provide minimal grooming of animals to make them more approachable for potential adopters.
- Clean fold and stock kennel laundry throughout the day
- Other duties as assigned
- Use care for disinfecting and practices excellent cleaning standards in regard to contamination factors. Uses antiviral cleaning chemical when cleaning all kennels.
- Works with Director to keep cleaning guidelines updated and in-line with proper industry standards.
- All other duties as assigned by the Director
- Helps administer all necessary vaccinations. Conduct de-worming, de=fleeing and ear checks (cleaning if necessary) of each animal in care of the shelter.
- Works closely with the Animal Control Director on animal illnesses and other issues requiring euthanasia.
- Oversee animal health and informs the Director of potential health concerns.
- Keeping accurate animal medication records. Maintains safe supply of medications, animal food, cleaning supplies and bedding.
- Must be able to work standing and sitting for 8 hours Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day
- Must be able to bend and kneel repeatedly
- Must be able to see fine detail in a variety of situations
- Must have good hearing including ability to distinguish changes in pitch
- Must have acceptable sense of touch and smell
- Must be able to work in potentially extreme environmental temperatures
- Must have acceptable sense of balance
- Must be able to work and reach on hands and knees
- Must possess excellent hand-eye coordination
Emotional/Mental Requirements
- Must be able to work under stressful conditions and work efficiently and effectively under those conditions
- Must be able to cope with death due to euthanasia
- Ability to process information rapidly and accurately
- Ability to recognize a need for assistance and ask for help

- Ability to cope with frustrating situations and remain calm
- Prolonged exposure to various aqueous solutions, including but not limited to, dish soap, chlorine bleach, and spectra soap
- Potential exposure to sharps (needles)
- Exposed to obnoxious smells, abscesses, cuts and injuries including deceased animals, and magots.
