Job Description
Classification: non-exempt/hourly
Location: Travel within Indiana and Ohio
The Technician, OSP Field installs, maintains, and troubleshoots outside plant infrastructure, including fiber optics, DC power copper cables, and installation of network components. This role works in the field to ensure the network is operational, while performing necessary repairs, and ensures quality control.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Installation and Maintenance:
- Install and maintain outside plant (OSP) network infrastructure, including fiber optic and DC power copper cables, conduits, and network related transmission and power equipment.
- Execute proper routing and termination of cables, equipment installations, and system testing.
- Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting to optimize network performance.
Site Assessment & Surveying:
- Conduct field surveys to assess existing conditions, planning installation routes, and evaluating the environmental impact.
- Coordinate with internal teams to determine material requirements and job specifications.
Troubleshooting & Repairs:
- Technician, OSP Field (Agency)Diagnose and resolve issues related to network connectivity, signal loss, and physical infrastructure problems.
- Execute timely and safe repairs or replacement of damaged or faulty equipment in a safe and timely manner.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Accurately record job activities, field reports, and service records.
- Maintain current logs of materials used, hours worked, and job completion status.
Compliance & Safety:
- Adhere to safety protocols, industry standards, and internal and customer installation guidelines.
- Ensure all work complies with local and federal regulations and company guidelines.
Customer Interaction:
- Professionally engage with customers and property owners to explain procedures, address concerns, and ensure satisfaction.
On-Call & Emergency Response:
- Participate in on-call rotations for emergency repairs or system failures, when necessary.
Travel/Shift Requirements
- This position requires up to 50% travel nationwide.
Physical Demands
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions and physical environments.
- Ability to operate comfortably at heights and on ladders.
- Lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs).
Skills and Abilities Required
- Strong knowledge of OSP infrastructure (fiber optics, coaxial, copper, etc.).
- Proficiency in fiber terminations, cleaning and testing equipment.
- Familiarity with cable rack, aux framing, equipment mounting installation methods.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivation, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Experience with specific OSP technologies and equipment.
- Certifications related to telecommunications (i.e. OSHA-10, FOA CFOT, CPCT, etc).
- Familiarity with transmission, fiber and DC power equipment (i.e. fuse panels, rectifiers and power small scale power plants).
Education and Experience Required
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate degree preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in OSP installation, maintenance, or related fields.
- Technical certifications or training in telecommunications, electrical systems, or network infrastructure preferred.
Job Types: Full-time, Temporary
Pay: $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
