This Opportunity

WSP is seeking a Stormwater Inspector/Environmental Scientist to join our team in Oakland, CA. Our clients span the military, municipalities, and commercial entities both local and international. Our projects solve real-world environmental and infrastructure problems. We are passionate about developing optimized, highly usable solutions and are looking for another innovator to join our team.

Working as part of our storm water team, the position requires performing stormwater inspections at various commercial, residential, industrial and construction sites and commuting to client offices to assist with entry of various inspections and water quality compliance documentation. Additionally, the position requires the candidate to be available at odd hours, especially during wet weather, to conduct inspections and storm water monitoring. Candidate must be able to provide outreach and education to the public (“responsible parties”) regarding structural treatment control best management practices (BMPs). Prefer experience in inspecting structural BMPs, commericial, construction, and industrial sites for appropriate and effective stormwater best management practices. Familiarity with environmental and stormwater quality industry standards and proficiency in applying knowledge of stormwater regulations to various sites is preferred. Must display independent judgement as well as excellent communication and critical thinking skills.

This position offers the opportunity for growth and development. Our team in San Francisco Bay Area works with multiple clients on a wide range of National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)-related projects, providing multiple opportunities to work in different project teams. The successful candidate will work with other San Francisico Bay Area Staff who have stormwater experience and be trained with various clinents.

Your Impact

  • Conduct BMP inspections at commercial, construction, industrial, and residential sites.
  • Identify areas of a facility contributing pollutants to the storm drain system.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of pollutant control measures.
  • Assist with priority development project (PDP) tracking and input into client database.
  • Prepare inspection reports to communicate inspection findings.
  • Assist in project coordination of schedules, cost-estimates, and equipment.
  • Assist with reviewing documentation for BMPs, including responding to the public.
  • Apply excellent communication skills with clients and the public.
  • Assist with surface water and stormwater sampling as needed.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in environmental consulting; Preferred experience with permit compliance and inspections.
  • Experience using Accela Databases
  • Will obtain professional stormwater licensure -Qualified Industrial Stormwater Practitioner, QISP, Qualified Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan Developer and Practioner(QSP/QSD) for NPDES Construction General Permit
  • Driver’s license with safe driving record
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintain flexibility with respect to assigned tasks due to changing deadlines, deliverables, and priorities.
  • Determined, thorough, and organized
  • Positive, team-oriented, and self-motivated 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 36
  • US Citizenship Client Required

Compensation and Benefits:

Expected Salary: $56,600-$87,780
