Job Overview

We are seeking a National Ethics and Compliance Manager to oversee and maintain programs that promote ethical business practices and regulatory compliance within our North American operations. This role is responsible for assessing legal and compliance risks, developing compliance programs, and ensuring alignment with global ethics policies.

This role will be onsite (non-remote/non-hybrid) and involve some travel:  1 to 2 weeks annually to other Würth locations in the continental US (and potentially Canada) and about 1 week to Germany annually. 

Reporting to the Global Compliance Manager in Germany, this position will serve as a key resource for compliance-related initiatives, employee training programs, and ethical business conduct. The ideal candidate will have expertise in compliance risk management, corporate governance, and regulatory affairs while possessing strong communication, investigative, and conflict resolution skills.

This role requires a high level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism, as well as the ability to collaborate across departments to maintain ethical standards and compliance with local, state, and federal laws.

Collaborates With: Company Compliance Officers & Business Unit Leaders

Key Responsibilities

Compliance Program Development & Implementation

  • Assist in the development, execution, and maintenance of corporate compliance policies and programs.
  • Monitor compliance with local, national, and international laws related to business operations.
  • Adapt and translate global compliance initiatives to align with the North American business landscape.
  • Conduct compliance risk assessments and develop action plans to address identified risks.
  • Ensure compliance with anti-bribery, anti-corruption, antitrust, and conflicts of interest regulations.

Ethics & Corporate Conduct

  • Promote a culture of integrity and ethical behavior within the organization.
  • Oversee whistleblower programs (Speak Up) and administer reporting mechanisms for employees, customers, and suppliers to disclose ethics or policy violations.
  • Investigate compliance concerns, ethical violations, and potential legal infractions, ensuring appropriate corrective actions.
  • Provide guidance on conflicts of interest, corporate governance, and ethical decision-making.

Employee Training & Awareness

  • Develop and deliver ethics and compliance training programs for employees at all levels.
  • Educate employees on company policies related to business ethics, anti-corruption laws, foreign trade regulations, and competition law.
  • Oversee training materials, presentations, and compliance awareness campaigns; track participation and completion records. 

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track and report compliance statistics, investigation findings, and remediation efforts.
  • Prepare reports for senior leadership on compliance risks, regulatory developments, and ethics-related issues.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits and assessments to ensure adherence to company policies and legal requirements.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Risk Management

  • Work closely with Company Compliance Officers, business leaders, and legal teams to align compliance efforts with business objectives.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between North American operations and the Global Compliance team in Germany.
  • Provide guidance on compliance-related inquiries, regulatory changes, and risk mitigation strategies.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, Corporate Compliance, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
    • A Master’s degree (preferred) in Law, Ethics, or Corporate Governance.
    • Professional certifications such as Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) are a plus.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in corporate compliance, business ethics, or regulatory affairs.
    • Experience handling investigations, compliance monitoring, and employee training programs.
  • Technical & Industry Knowledge:
    • Strong knowledge of corporate compliance policies, risk management, and governance structures.
    • Familiarity with criminal law, labor law, competition law, foreign trade regulations, and industrial compliance requirements.
    • Understanding of compliance frameworks related to anti-bribery, anti-corruption, and whistleblower protection.
    • Proficiency in compliance monitoring software, risk assessment tools, and legal research platforms.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Integrity, discretion, and the ability to handle confidential information with professionalism.
    • Strong investigative, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
    • Excellent communication and training abilities to engage employees and leadership.
    • Ability to collaborate across departments and influence ethical decision-making at all levels.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage deadlines effectively.
