We’re looking for an enthusiastic youth leader to guide and mentor our Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program for teens ages 13–14.
About this role
This position will work under the direction of the Camp Director to conduct a safe, fun and age-appropriate large group summer camp experience for counselors-in-training, ages 13-14years old, consistent with the YMCA’s core values and the needs of participants and the community.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Implementing a 2-week CIT program (July 14–25, 2025) that focuses on leadership development, team-building activities, and hands-on experience working with children.
- Facilitating activities such as low ropes courses, hikes, swimming, and an off-site excursion.
- Serving as a role model and mentor, inspiring CITs as they explore career paths and prepare for future camp counselor roles.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- 18 years of age or older
- Able to attend mandatory trainings June 7, 9-13, 2025 and work all days of the CIT program (July 14 - 25)
- Experienced working with teens, camp or youth programming, preferred
- An experienced leader
- Detail oriented; extremely reliable, dependable, and punctual.
- CPR/AED/Basic First Aid certified (YMCA will train).
- A criminal background check is required and may include fingerprinting through the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), prior to hire.
- The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Salary
$17/hour
Get a $0.50/hour pay increase when you become lifeguard and archery certified (training by the Y)!
The dates of the CIT program are:
Training Week: June 7, 9-13, 2025
CIT Program: July 14–25, 2025
Looking for additional hours? Pick them up by lifeguarding or substituting in other programs! This is a great way to get involved in our Y community.
